So WHY do the "Psychics" always try and SELL me something?
Am I the only one that gets this kind of email:

YOUR DATE TO WATCH, LAURA:
August 29th, 2006

Laura, let me tell you how this simple bracelet could attract $50,000, even $500,000 and make your life comfortable and carefree...

You're on the verge of entering a phase of "WEALTH ENERGY" so intense, it could turn your financial picture around by August 29th - but you must be prepared to act quickly!

Dear Laura,

As I wrote to you earlier, if your summer so far has been memorable only for the temperature, hang in there, because you're in for a real SCORCHER of LUCK!

Starting on August 29th, you'll be able to tap into an unusually strong phase of "WEALTH ENERGY." For 88 magical days following August 29th, this energy will be at its peak -- and the effect on your life could be mind-blowing! Whether you dream of paying off debts, buying a new car or home, or quitting your job to travel the world, this is your golden opportunity to make it come true.

That's why I was especially concerned when I didn't hear back from you the first time I wrote you about this ...because this is a truly remarkable time, when the Power of 8 can make miracles happen for you, and I want you to seize all its benefits with both hands! So I'm writing you again, to make sure you won't miss this incredible window into a juggernaut of good fortune.

And to really attract the biggest rewards -- the $500,000 jackpot, for instance! -- you need to get the "Power of 8" on your side...that's where the "Bracelet of Divine Mysticism" comes in, and why I want you to have it ASAP!

snip...
-----

I've snipped out just that little bit because it goes on (and on!) to tell me about how much of difference this bracelet will make in my life, all for the princely sum of $24.95 (plus shipping.)

Am I the only one that gets this kind of mail, and do any of you know any places that will email out a regular atro-projection and NOT try to sell me stuff?

Thanks!

Laura

4. My mother gets them in regular mail
and it is rather disturbing - as it is borderline threats - "if you do ot heed my advice, calamity will strike" type of thing.

Fake psychics.

5. Well, yeah, if I don't buy that bracelet I'm gonna stay poor.
That really IS the implied threat.

I have to admit, I look at this stuff and I wonder how many people buy this stuff and these "special readings" out of fear and panic. In part, I put this thread up to see how others here feel about it and how they deal with it.

So far it looks kinda like we just ignore it or else laugh at it--in equal parts...

Laura

PS, If you don't reply "in the next 24 hours you will be passing up the opportunity to charge your life!"

6. Here it goes straight into the shredder
as for the originating point - I think bad karma will hit the fan very soon -

These kind of scams give people with real psychic abilities a bad name .

7. So, I'm not the only one being harassed by that creepy Sarah Freder freak?
What I think is creepy about those scams is that some of them are loosely based on my actual astrology. Which I find both hillarious and repulsive and ITA with the poster who mentioned bad karma. And bad instant karma. Let me tell you, instant karmic payback's a bitch. If the spirits have to smack you around for crap you've done in this lifetime--you've...done some bad stuff.

9. Oh yeah--she's ANOTHER one...
I finally got to the point with her that I just delete without even looking. My next step is to block sender, and that is rapidly aproaching...

Eeew!

As for the karma thing, I dunno. I have seriously come to realize that karma doesn't work with any kind of expedience nor even rationality from what I can tell. I see walking examples of hurtful, self serving, abusive assholes walking unfettered EVERY single day and I am incredibly frustrated with that. I realize that "karmic smack" will probably not come on any timetable I think appropriate, but I have got to say I am seeing some real screw-ups slide on some pretty heinous stuff.

I am assuming this is a lesson I need to learn in my life and I am working on understanding it. Maybe I am just too judgemental...

13. No, you're not the only one Blue Iris.
I was really surprised that I got "pursued" by this individual. And you're right: this little Tapeworm attached herself to a really nice web site. I think it came from when I checked out Astro Dienst which is a German astrology web site. It's really good & I have recommended it to some friends and they have been happy.

But this Sarah Freder..... I couldn't believe it when the threats started getting more ominous, like.....

"You only have 24 Hours.....C...."

"You only have 1 week......"

Other times, she used the lure of money, "You are about to have fabulous luck". So it was the carrot & stick approach. It just pissed me off.

Thank God she's gone on to greener pastures.

8. Davsand
I'm a reader and this type of charlatan is not a psychic. This is what makes me do a slow burn when I see people like this. They're not genuine, at all. Not at all.

10. Yeah, it makes us ALL look bad, doesn't it?
I quit reading Tarot for the general public a long time ago, and will only read for myself these days. In part, I quit doing readings for others simply because I got tired of trying to live up to the expectations that are created by the frauds and parasites out there claiming to be "real psychics." You just can't tell the truth and live up to those kind of lies--ya know?

Hang in there!

11. Unfortunately
I have researched most of the presenters on The Secret, and found them to all have something free to offer. I have no objection to people making an honest living. But one, Joe Vitale, who actually lives close to here, seems to be nothing more than an internet marketer. I'm not interested in making money by selling nothing. He charges up to $1,000 per person for his stuff. I call that, um, addiction to excitement. And for $1,000, I'm gonna get a lot more excitment than that.

12. Predictions of great wealth etc.
Unfortunately, I get these quite regularly by mail and
recently even e-mail. There is always a talisman that will be
given to me and something else that needs to be bought. The
contents of a letter I received recently tally almost
verbatim with the letter quoted in this post. I find these
communications quite disturbing, because some of them are
threatening. Needless to say none of the periods of time
supposed to turn my life upside down have ever materialized,
probably because I have failed to come up with whatever sum
was asked of me.

14. I'm posting to make you this incredible once in a lifetime
Edited on Sun Aug-27-06 03:11 PM by stellanoir
incredible life changing offer!!! ACT NOW or live forever in abject poverty and writhe in absolute misery. OKAY ???

Kidding.

All professional readers are up against this sort of BS but there are charlatans in every field. There are far more readers with integrity than there are without any IMHO. Maybe it's a squeaky wheel scenario.

But I'd hate to see you dissuaded from doing readings by the low lifes. It's all the more reason we need ethical folks like you providing folks guidance. Please perhaps reconsider practicing again. The readers on this board will certainly support you if you do.

Here's a related excerpt from my writing of last spring that addresses another facet of these hustlers. . .

The following excerpt will eventually be honed into the 19th trick:

". . .As to one of the many Biblical misinterpretations, one has inspired those who have wildly projected ill will onto those of the most gentle, alternative and various intuitive healing arts, based solely on the "beware soothe sayers of Babylon" quotation. . .

It perhaps merely applied, to some really low life readers in Babylon at that particular juncture in time. That is one of the oh so many distortions and omissions within the King James edition of the Bible.

Get this. . . For the verrry same reason that a waitperson can be
wonderfully charming with a party at one table, and a "bitch on wheels" with another, no reader can read everyone. It has to do with interpersonal dynamics and synastry. Yet there truly are charlatans in every field. I can easily totally attune to a whole bunch of folks, though be somewhat blocked, with one of their best friends for a myriad of reasons. So they don't get charged and receive a referral.

That aforementioned Biblical quotation could be possibly upgraded to
"Beware, also of those old school "curse ladies" who tell everyone they see that "(they) have a curse on (them,) which will require thousands of dollars to remedy, because only (the curse ladies) are capable of burning really pricey candles for (them) "

So sweet and struggling though somewhat naive souls, walk around for years, assuming they have an affliction upon them, which they can't afford to remedy. That is, of course, until they run into me or those of similar more scrupulous orientations. : )

I've repetitively said to those sorts of folks for decades, "Look, we are all blessed and cursed from birth, as all are born into circumstances in ways both advantageous, and disadvantageous. You can do far more about rectifying your circumstances than those exorbitant curse ladies, and their pricey candles, could ever do." I really don't know how those women do in fact, sleep at night. Though I did hear of one who had three separate house fires in a relatively short amount of time. Gee I wonder why that happened. . .? Guess those pricey candles can get out of control or something.

I am blessed with really adorable funny and verrry talented friends, One ( http://beautifulcandy.blogspot.com / ) was even told by a curse lady,"your aura is dark and darkening rapidly, and soon not even God will be able to help you." "Zoinks, Scooby" one of my favorite friends thought. She and I laughed hysterically over that one, as the curse lady's malevolent projection was not true of anyone on this planet, as long as they can still simply laugh.

My friend's cartoonish response was and is a great illustration which is really instructive of a really effective way to respond to such shadowy projections. She instantaneously & momentarily, turned herself into a cartoon and the venomous projection floated right through her and had no hook whatsoever. That is a wonderful trick of which to be ever mindful. It might just have become the 19th trick. Great humor is the best modus operandi after all. So maybe act more cartoonish and beware of falling anvils as ever. Or maybe even learn a joke in every language you can to create greater global harmony and avoid international hassles."
