Is it too early to be feeling the effects of Mercury Retrograde?
Last week my husband fell through the roof of his shed, so we spent the day in the hospital getting xrays for his concussion and cracked/bruised ribs. Now a week later he's in a lot of pain but refuses to rest and recuperate. Today he just HAD to get out on his lawn tractor to cut the grass, but something broke on the mower part. So he's crawling around on the ground with his cracked ribs and finally manages to fix the bloody thing. He gets it going and lurches it around the yard mowing the grass, but the brakes need adjusting and he nearly drives it over a 6 foot enbankment full of boulders at the bottom. He finishes up by driving through a patch of stinging nettles. Then he comes in and complains all night about how sore he is.

I often seem to have eventful Mercury retrogrades. After going through this past week and listening to all the whining and bellyaching, I don't think that I can handle anymore of it this time around. Is there any chance that it might be all over with?

1. I swore on Tuesday of this week that Merc. was
up to it's tricks. I am feeling the effects already myself, being a Leo. Batten down the hatches!!

2. Well first of all,
aside from the mechanical troubles, your husband's recent hassles sound far more Uranian (temporarily accident prone) or Saturnine (bone related) perhaps Martian (physical frustration) than Mercurial.

Secondly, some astrologers augment the retrogradation period to beyond the retrograde station and the direct station to when Mercury passes the degree at which it will go stationary direct (8 Leo) until it passes the degree at which it goes retrogade (20 Leo). So that would extend the period beyond the normal (approx 3 week) duration to almost 2 months (July 4-Aug 30).

I feel that augmentation is somewhat extreme. A more moderate approach is to view the period approaching the retrogradation as being under the influence of a Mercury that warrants centering (wobbly-you may have to clarify or "do over") and the period after as being under the influence of a Mercury that's straightening itself out (clarification time). There definitely are transitional influences moving in and out of the retrogradation cycle, but I really don't feel they are entirely comparable to the retro period itself.

Bare in mind that Mercury is retrograde almost 20% of the time so it's not as though anyone should but their life on hold for that amount of time. Yet overscheduling, making absolute decisions, signing stuff, buying electronical stuff is really not recommended.

I've cracked my ribs before and I know the worst thing is that it hurts when one laughs, coughs, or sneezes. It's such a drag.

Hope things lighten up for your husband and that he heals up very soon.

3. I've been feeling it for at least a week
We have resecheduled a minor surgery for my son three times in the past few days. Every plan keeps being thwarted and rescheduled. Driving somewhere seems to involve circling back and taking another route due to traffic. It has seemed like Merc Rx for a week already. This is probably becasue Mercury has slowed down quite a bit from its usual fast pace. I am definitely feeling it. For me the worst is usually the Mercury station, when it doesn't move at all for several days. Our computers frequently either slow down or die during that time.

4. Does this happen every cycle for you or is this one

triggering your and/or your son's charts?

on edit-I totally agree about the stations. Even more so though with the outer most planets when they hover at the same degree for weeks and months at a time. Creates a whole lot of collective consternation I swear.

5. I totally agree about the outer planet stations
The Saturn stations are always the most difficult. You can watch national or global news and see when there is big funk about something. It is usually during a Saturn station. September and October 2001 and the month of the DC smiper come immediately to mind. Last November 2004 sucked pretty bad for a lot of us too. All Saturn stations.

I always seem to feel Mercury retro for the week or so before the actual retrograde hits.

6. My most ironic planetary station memory is
when Pluto made it's very last station in Scorpio on August 8th '95, on the day before Jerry Garcia (Grateful Dead) died.

The other rather auspicious event that occured during that station. . . ? . . .Ahhhhhhh. . . .Bill Clinton met a very nice young woman named. . . Monica.

8. Interesting... and thanks for your kind words
He is on the mend but always overdoes it instead of allowing himself to heal. (Patience is something that he is short of and is probably one his life's lessons.)

Interesting that you should say this...
as being under the influence of a Mercury that warrants centering (wobbly-you may have to clarify or "do over") and the period after as being under the influence of a Mercury that's straightening itself out (clarification time).

I've been working on a project that involves a lot of paperwork of the type that I don't particularily enjoy to begin with. I've been struggling along for a couple of weeks and got about half way through only to find out that I need to "clarify" and "do-over "what I've done already. Frustrating. It has to be finished by the end of the month and I am becoming a master of avoidance around it. I do hope I can get myself straightened around soon!

7. Not too early, I feel it at
least 3 weeks before it officially starts.

I work in a co-op so it's easy to see when the deliveries start getting messed up.

Your poor husband..I hope he gets better fast!

9. Today he went out
and painted the deck which was bad enough, but then he picked up a great big bucket of water and pulled something and hurt himself again. I just don't know what he's trying to prove.
