Anyone with a kind heart planning to drive cross country?
My sister in Upland Calif has been caring for a stray kitty for 2 years. The cat is a healthy, spayed female and I would love to adopt her. She is very concerned because Coyotes are now jumping over her fence and trying to get the cat. The poor thing cannot come in the house because my sisters other cat, a very temperamental Persian constantly fights with the stray. This kitty once had a home, she wants to come inside very much but cannot.

I cannot afford the Pet-Air fee and they don't come to the Boston area anyway. They also require complete physical and up-to-date shots. I would have the kitty checked here but the combination of air and vet fees makes it impossible.

Any ideas? Any drivers? I could drive for pick up just about anywhere in NE.

1. Maybe if this is considered a rescue, you can get a free or low cost fare from Pet Air??

2. Thanks for th route map. I plan to e-mail Petairways today .
I hope they can help me get this kitty here so everyone can rest easier. I am an old cat lover, they would not be concerned with her care. If I had lots of $$$, it would not be a problem. It would take me about two hours to drive to Hartford, not a problem unless we get some major weather. Thanks for the ideas from both you you.

I hope they have a compassionate fare.

3. Here is the latest about the kitty from Pet Airways.
There is no way for me to do this but it was worth a try.

Their reply:

(My name)

Thank you for contacting Pet Airways. At this time we could accommodate your kitty from Hawthorne Airport in LA to Republic Airport on Long Island, New York. The current cost for this flight in a smaller carrier, which accommodates pets up to 11" from the top of the head to the floor, is $279 plus tax. She will need to have a health certificate issued within two weeks of travel indicating that she is fit to fly. She will also need to be up to date on distemper and rabies and have a fecal test within two weeks of travel. I realize you are concerned regarding the cost of the flight and the stated vaccination requirements. We did run a special last month right before Thanksgiving for 40% off flights booked between Nov 4th and Thanksgiving for flights in November. While I make no promises there is always the chance of us running another special so if you can arrange to have her kept in a more secure place in the time being perhaps our service would become more affordable for you should we run another special. Be sure to sign up for our online newsletter to stay informed as we expand our services.

I had explained my situation to them and posted my initial post from DU (without names).

I guess it is time to give up. I hoped something would work out.

I was extremely happy with them. I used them six years ago.

Looks like they have some kind of a "special" on right now.

They go to Boston
