the magic cat trick ... *eek*
:wtf: :wtf:

Ok, I will admit it, I did not pay enough attention to little Jules my Munchkin kitty that is now 3 years old last night. She was mad too and I moved her out of my spot where I sit to the bed and turned on the electric blanket (high please) for her. She was pissed still I could tell.

About an hour or so later I suddenly noticed that Jules was missing. The other two cats were accounted for and a search began of the house for her. I could not find her anywhere!

My tomcat (her boyfriend as I call him) was looking all over for her too. Not a sign of her anywhere - vanished as in *poof*.

So, I went out into the garage and looked and looked and still NO JULES! I was so upset! I got a flashlight and was going to go outside to look around in the dark for her but I couldn't see how she could have gotten out as a door to the outdoors had not been opened for several hours and was locked with the deadbolt thrown on it.

I opened this same back door from the garage to the outside world and there she was standing there!

She came charging in with all of her might and my tomcat gave her a harsh swipe on the hindquarters and chased her into the house and was meowing at her as if to scream/lecture, "Don't you EVER do that again!!".

My tomcat was in the garage for hours after wards trying to figure out how she did this. He seemed baffled and finally wandered off to bed a few hours later after much close observation of the garage.

Old Kitty was watching the whole show and moaning now and then. She also knows this "trick" too. I've seen (well not seen I should say) her do this "disappearing act" many times in her 15 years of age.

Ok, so the story is seemingly over - cat found.

However, HOW IN THE HELL DID SHE DO THIS?

Magic cat trick is the only explanation I can come up with as there is no way to get outside from the garage unless you open the bolted door. :dunce:

1. there has to be an opening somewhere in that garage
Maybe above eye level? The cat knows where; why not put her in the garage, sit quietly and watch what she does.

2. no openings
the garage is a very small one car garage and the car is about all that will fit in it. My husband is a retired carpenter and he has worked this house over top to bottom. He said there are no entries except the bolted door and the garage door (it has an opener but the cracks to the outside you see are very small and there is no way that this 12 lb. cat could slip out).

The other thing is that the cat is a Munchkin and has very short legs and cannot climb or jump very much.

This is worrisome to me and that is why I keep a close eye on her as she can't escape or defend herself if it came down to it.

I was out in the garage about 10X since this happened and no, there is no way out of it.

I am truly baffled. Every time I go out to the garage, there is Jules watching me carefully.

I wish I knew what the secret is to this whole thing. Very odd at best.

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

3. ok then how's this:
She hypnotizes you into opening the door, then causes you to forget that you did it! :tinfoilhat:

It's really spooky! ;)

4. my husband is out in the garage now
Edited on Sat Apr-18-09 03:44 PM by CountAllVotes
he's looking around again and he said he doesn't see any way out period. She is now outside with the other two cats in the backyard playing with them.

I saw her go out in the garage a little while ago and there was no sign of her. When I opened that door (threw the bolt) I heard this *chirp* and it was her - hiding under the car.

No clues still.

You could be right about the hypnotism thing. Look at those eyes she has on her ... they say, open that door in the garage for a second, open that door in the garage for a second ...

:tinfoilhat: is right!

Kinda creepy huh?

11. no light through the ceiling
and she cannot get there anyway.

I think maybe she slipped out for a second and someone around here forgot about opening that door for a few seconds.

Could be.

If not she is a shape shifting teleporter.

Take your pick! :D

5. You didn't know about how cats can find portals to other universes or dimensions?
Edited on Sat Apr-18-09 04:00 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
They do it all the time. They will slip through one of these portals and disappear, and then, after you have searched for them for hours, reappear at some completely unexpected time and location.

Jules had just wandered off into into one of these other dimensions and then returned through the garage portal. Very simple.

6. Try going out to the garage with your hubby and shining a flashlight into
every nook and cranny possible. If you do this at night, it may make it easy to spot light coming out from the spot.

7. Maybe this?
Can she get on TOP of the garage door when it's closed? On the rim, sort of?

We had a cat who would do this...and then use her soft furry little body as a lever to PRY open the garage door from the top. She'd slide down the garage door from the top, and she'd have opened it just enough for the other cat to make his escape out the bottom.

Didn't know what was going on until we caught her doing this...

Either that, or maybe your cats CAN teleport. Which wouldn't suprise me in the least...

8. decided that Jules must be a teleporter
Edited on Sun Apr-19-09 09:30 PM by CountAllVotes
and perhaps a shape shifter to boot.

It is difficult to know really.

She is a disabled cat and cannot climb nor jump high. She is very limited physically being she is what she is. Very odd I must say.

I had a cat years ago that managed to do the magic cat trick. My late father had a small shed he built in the back of our house for the cat to sleep in at night. The cat managed to get out too once and we never figured out how he did it. ?

I tell ya, cats are magical animals, I am convinced! :D

9. Did you or your husband happen to go into the garage with
the garage door open and is it possible she simply snuck out behind you because you were focused on something?

The animals watch us you know...

14. Let me know if you ever figure it out.
My cat goes into a room. I follow a few seconds later. She has disappeared. I look in every (I mean EVERY) nook and cranny. No cat. I turn around, ready to leave and there she is right behind me. It's all a feline plot against us humans.
