my heart is dragging me toward more trouble
named sophie.
she is a black capped lory, like this one.

i have kinda been wishing for another bird. i have a grey, who is a very sweet, lovable bird. very good girl. she is very quiet. sometimes i think she is bored. so i have been wondering about getting her a pal.
i used to have a chattering lory.
like this one-

they are hilarious birds. jubilee was a handful, but so much fun.
but they are so freakin messy. they have watery poops that they squirt out of the cage. yum.
my house does not need any help. it skates on the edge of the health department watch list as it is.
ugh.
but sophie is a sad girl, who doesn't get to have much fun. her owners are idiots who do not understand birds. they thought she was the coolest until she bit the teenager. (who deserved it!) now they want to know why she can't get with the program, like the golden retrievers.

where does my time/money/life go? my kind heart gives it away, a little at a time. hello sophie.

1. Those are beautiful birds.
I hate it when people get a bird and not only don't know anything about them but don't even try to learn. I don't blame you for wanting to get the bird.

But dont' forget, the two birds might not get along. As I'm sure you know, each bird has his or her own personality and quirks. Greys are extremely smart birds; your grey could be bored. Does she have a lot of different toys? Is she alone most of the day? If she's alone, maybe she'd enjoy listening to a radio--you could leave AirAmerica on for her. Who knows, maybe she'll start talking about how terrible bush is. :-)

Let us know what you decide about the lory.

2. they haven't decided for sure to let her go
but we think they will, and the sooner the better.
they were educated when they got the bird. they had to read the book before they took her home, and had a lot of support. but you can't really teach a moron
i suspect they might not get along. my last lory was a very territorial brat, and they were enemies. but i don't think that love and hate are the opposites to parrots that they are to people. they are both normal parts of flock life. i think most parrots would rather have an enemy than be alone. does that make any sense?
kaya is a spoiled princess. she is about 10' from me right now, and is rarely alone. when she misses me, she will walk on over. the rest of the time, she is happy to sit in or on her cage, and watch the world go by. in fact, she is over there doing the happy bird beak click right now.

3. I know absolutely nothing about birds, but I do know that my dog was not
Edited on Mon Feb-28-05 02:31 PM by Rhiannon12866
Happy as an "only dog." He spent the first nine years of his life with his biological sister, and she was the leader. However, his owner died, and her two little dogs were placed separately. His home did not work out, but then he found me. He immediately bonded with my cocker spaniel, sleeping behind her on her bed the very first night I brought him home. And I think that she loved the adulation, LOL!:D

I hope that this works out for you. Animals, like people, can get very lonely.:-(

BTW, what a beautiful bird!:loveya:

on edit:
Meneken and Sheena, "brother and sister.":-)
