DU this Poll! YES to legislation requiring spay nueter in OH, like that in CA
Edited on Fri May-18-07 07:37 AM by ehrnst
<snip>The state of California spends $250 million a year to house and ultimately euthanize unwanted dogs and cats.

A proposed bill asks all pet owners to fix their animals by the time they are 4 months old or face a $500 fine per animal.

Licensed breeders and other agencies would be exempt so that they could continue to have more pups and kittens.

Supporters believe that this is a great way to curb the problem of stray animals. Critics, on the other hand, can't believe that the government now wants to get involved in how you take care of your pet.

That leads to today's Fox Unplugged question. ... Should pet owners be required to get their pets spayed or neutered to cut down on the number of unwanted dogs and cats?</snip>

2. I don't think that legislation is proposed in OH yet.

This is a poll to guage public support in OH for the type of legislation introduced in CA.

http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/07-08/bill/asm/ab_1601-1650/ab_1634_bill_20070223_introduced.html

I have no idea which politicos in OH pay attention to Fox polls, but...recently the right wing religious movement has expressed an interest in animal rights (??????) so maybe the message will get to a congresscritter that'll do something with it.

3. Done
As someone who has worked in pet rescue, I've long thought that this would be the best way to curb the population of unwanted pets. Also, I think that the remaining breeders should be REVIEWED and LICENSED before they are allowed to sell/ adopt out their animals.

5. What are the dog tag fees in Ohio?
Here in Indiana it is $5 for neutered/spayed animals and $100 otherwise for dogs.
