Any exotic pets or other non cat/dog pics?
I own two cats, and was the owner of a lovely dog, until she passed away last year. I work in a vet clinic, and LOVE to see the different pets people have. So, who has exotics or birds, rabbits, etc? Let's see 'em!!!!

1. This one isn't mine, but
She looks like a real sweetie: http://exoticpets.about.com/od/unconventionalpets/l/blphfox.htm

usually I don't approve of keeping wild animals as pets, but these people have obviously made Rosie a pretty happy little fox!

5. Lucky Birds!!!
Look at all the fun stuff they get to play with! I haven't had much experience with the feathered pets, but my aunt had an African Grey parrot who was so sweet!! These two are beautiful. Do they talk?

7. Hi
Yes they do. They say/repeat many words and use them in very silly combinations of their own making. But I want to preface all of this with the statement that imo, birds do not make good pets for the most part.

I have not "taught" them to talk. Parrots are really intelligent and they vocalize in the wild, since I am part of the flock, they have learned some of the flock noises I make. This breaks my heart sometimes.

My grey calls to my dog in my voice, and they all imitate each others patter and movements.

They require huge amounts of time to care for them properly, imo, and with the pace of life for many people it is really hard to give this level of care. They are expensive to house and feed, and are reduced to eating the same sorts of things chickens are feed. We do not know what many of them eat naturally, and it would be impossible to replicate their wild diet.

I have rescue birds. I hate that they are here at all sometimes. Don't get me wrong, I love these guys, but I think they really belong in the wild. I struggle with this often.

8. Then they are truly lucky.
I work at a vet hospital, and we see lots of birds whose owners are well-intentioned (or not), but have no idea of the proper care of our feathered friends. They often present with feather picking, some severe enough to cause bleeding. It's so sad! I constantly see recommendations made to feed more of a variety, even though the owners were erroneously told by the pet store that store-bought pellets would be fine (most likely in an attempt to sell more birds to people even though the people don't have enough time!). They don't realize that they need toys and variety and stimulation, just like any pet, maybe even more so. I've never wanted a bird, but it breaks my heart as well to see them neglected. Thank god(s) that there are bird rescuers like you to give some of them a better life!

Keep it up, and thanks from all animal lovers!

4. Not exactly "House Pets",
but great friends and winter companions!

Meet Romeo and Juliet, wild Canadian Geese.
They have stayed for extended winter visits for the last 3 years.
Over time, they taught me "goose talk", and provided many hours of educational entertainment.

Canadian Geese mate for life, and are always together.
They are also very good parents, sharing the work.
This is a close up of Romeo, who was bolder and protective of his mate.

They trusted me enough to eat out of my hand, and occasionally let me stroke them.
They are beautiful, intelligent birds.

Sadly, they are not with us this winter.
Circumstance dictated that we sell the boats, and move on to dry land.
I miss them!

6. Geese are so great.
There used to be a flock right outside of my office building (we have a pond).

"Your" two are so pretty! I've heard that they are very smart as well.

9. They are smart . . .
And they leave droppings that would make you think a small dog had been there :).

But they are neat. I had to slam on my breaks one day down by a large reservoir near Waltham, Mass. Pissed off a lot of people behind me, but there was a family of Geese trying to cross the road to get to the water :). A mother, father and 1/2 dozen goslings :)

They were cute as hell, I was just bummed that I didn't have my camera with me.
