Please help Susie find a home.
I have a friend who works with TLC Adoptions, a pet rescue organization on CA. She is having a hard time finding a home for Susie because poor Susie gets so stressed out in the Petsmart cages and doesn't leave a good first impression under those conditions. I fell in love with her at first sight ... well, when I saw her picture. I'd adopt her myself if I didn't live so far away and didn't already have 4 kitties.

Susie needs a home where she is the only kitty, no kids. She also has some special dietary needs. If you or anyone you know lives in CA and you think you could help, please look at Susie's story. There must be someone out there who is a good match for this sweet, beautiful kitty. I thought it couldn't hurt to post here, hoping that Susie's forever family will see it or hear about it.

2. She has spent something like 20 weekends at Petsmart.
And it's stressing her out terribly. The kids stick their fingers into her cage and it upsets her more. Of course, no one wants to adopt an upset kitty. :(

She just wants to be someone's furbaby. :loveya:

I hope she finds a home very soon. A good one!

I hope you posted this on the DU group for California. I found a cat a home that way.

8. I don't know.
But apparently she's not very appealing when she's all scrunched up and scared. :(

Week after week, she gets loaded up to go to Petsmart and no one even looks at. I want her, but I can't have her. Doesn't ANYONE living in CA need a kitty? (I posted it over there and haven't gotten any replies yet.)

9. Such a pretty face.
Althea is much younger, but that's how she was at adoption days too. She was scared of everybody that came in. Then when I was looking, I picked her up, and she curled up in my arms and started purring :).

I couldn't resist :)

10. Oh, we keep hoping someone like you will show up.
I don't know if Susie would curl up like that right away ... she's just SO scared. But maybe the right person could "cat whisper" to her. :)

Our Sophie curled up in our daughter's arms when she was taken out of her cage. She's a real sweetheart. Never went back into that cage.

11. Encourage your friend to try Rescue Remedy if Susie goes back to
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 08:15 PM by IndyOp
PetSmart. Rescue Remedy will make the trip less stressful for Susie and will make it more likely that she will respond to people in a way that better reveals who she will be when she gets her peaceful forever home.

She looks exactly, exactly like my California cat David -- who died this past June at the age of 19. (I am no longer in California - far away - and, so cannot take Susie).

Rescue Remedy

Rescue Remedy Description for Pets:
This combination of 5 Essences is a "must have" for all pet
owners. It is excellent when taking the pet to the vet, after a trauma, when the pet is "not quiet well," or after an accident.

1. Star of Bethlehem: For trauma and shock.
2. Clematis: For the tendency to "pass out", and unconsciousness, being ‘far away’ and not present mentally.
3. Cherry Plum: Fear of mind giving way, verge of breakdown, anger.
4. Impatiens: For irritability, tension and fidgety.
5. Rock Rose: For frozen terror and panic.

Mimulus might be best for Susie if your friend can find it: Fear of known things, such as, strangers, sounds, new places, the vacuum cleaner, other animals etc. This includes shyness.

Rescue Remedy can be purchased online or at your local 'whole foods' store --

12. My friend is a vet.
She gives her something already ... not homeopathic. And I think it's just to get her there. I will suggest the Rescue Remedy. Can't hurt at this point. We use homeopathic remedies for our kitties, so I am familiar with them ... just didn't think to have her try one.

Thanks. I'm sorry about David. It's so hard losing a fur baby. You sound perfect for Susie except that you're not in CA. :(

13. My late Bourre was just like that
She had been at the Bide-a-Wee center for months languishing in a crate. When they put her in my arms she was just dead weight with a stare that would have been catatonic (ahem) in a human, but her purr was alive so I took her home. It took her many, many months to adjust to a new home, but little by little she started coming around and getting to know me. It was almost two years after adoption that she finally jumped up on my bed with me one cold night and settled down behind my knees.

She was a tipped gray, white at the body, charcoal at the ends. She, too, loved her brush.

I would take this girl in a heartbeat if I lived on the West Coast. I'm sure, however, that somebody will recognize her as a friend, even if Susie herself cannot.

RIP, Boo. She was with me for fifteen years.

14. Thank you, MamaBear.
I'm so sorry about Bourre -- she sounds like a doll!

It's hard not to get discouraged, but I'm sure you're right. Someone will fall in love with her one of these days. I wish you lived on the West Coast.

Yes, RIP, Boo.

15. She taught me so much.
It was hard, those long months when she hid 24/7, occasionally peeking out from a closet or from behind the drapes. I had no choice with her but to let her come to me in her own time. She acted like a feral cat in that she wouldn't let me get near her, but she'd come around and check me out. She didn't like me talking to her, but she'd meow at me, and I'd meow back. She liked to converse when I was in the bathtub. I guess she figured I'd take way to long to get out of the water. She was about three or four when I adopted her.

My heart goes out to that kitty, and to her eventual human, who will be blessed beyond belief.

Thanks for listening.

16. That's so cute!
We have a kitty like that. She's just coming out of her shell after 7 years! And my boy Aby likes to talk to me when I'm in the bathtub.

They are so precious. And I can tell Bourre was a very special kitty.

17. If you think it would be useful
I would be willing to do phone or email support for Susie's adoptive family. I don't have to tell you how frustrating it can be to have a being sharing your space who is so obviously terrified of you.

PM me if you'd like. I live on the East Coast, and for other reasons, I can't take on the responsibility of a companion right now.

18. Thank you very much for your offer.
I'm sure she'll be fine once she is adoptive ... it's finding the person to adopt her that is the challenge right now. I do not think she will be terrified when she is brought to her new home. She just doesn't like being in a cage at Petsmart and being poked at by all the kids who walk by.
