similar to Outlook but with out the MS baggage?

1. Firefox extension: "reminder Fox"

this free utility runs inside the Firefox browser ... if your running Firefox, just click on tools then on extensions ... then, in the lower right corner of the window that pops up, click on "get more extensions"

"reminder Fox" isn't fancy but perhaps it will meet your needs ... i like that it runs inside the browser ...

2. Yes! Google to the rescue!
Google has a great calendar!! You can set appts with reminders just like outlook. I just found this after trying to figure out if I could buy Outlook 2002/2003 to use with my Office 2000. If you're also using Firefox you can just pop the calendar on your toolbar.
