Firefox 1.5 and MS Wireless keyboard Zoom slider
I downloaded FF 1.5 and it does not respond to the zoom slider on my keyboard. Firefox 1.0x would zoom in and out, but 1.5 acts like the slider isa scroll up/down function. I also just tried the slider on IE and it zooms as it's supposed to. Anyone else having this issue. I don't mind pressing CTRL+ to zoom but I love the slider and it's getting annoying. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1. Is it programmable ...

Being an MS keyboard, it's defaults will naturally be bound to IE shortcuts. I don't really know what those are and don't have that keyboard, so this is purely a guess.

The combination in Firefox 1.5 for zoom +/- has changed, I think. I never used this much, but the combination I remember using doesn't work. Now, it's CTRL-<scroll wheel> as you apparently realized. If the keyboard has some sort of configuration interface, you might be able to dicate the behavior of the slider to replicate the CTRL-<scroll wheel> shortcuts.

There's probably a way to modify this in Firefox as well, but I'll need to look to see if I can find it.

2. CTRL works, but the slider doesn't- this is reported on the
Firefox 1.5 bugs page:

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=349038

No fix posted as yet. I love the text zoom slider; it's the most used button I use on my MS Comfort Keyboard 1.0

Hope it gets fixed soon or I'll uninstall FF 1.5 till it gets

3. Weird ...

That would seem like an easy fix, but who knows. At least it has already been reported. Sorry I couldn't help.

I've run into a couple weird bugs myself in the last couple days. I don't know if they are bugs yet -- not reported as such -- or something I am doing, but I do know I'm not doing anything different than before. In any case, some of the preferences keep changing back to defaults, particularly the "smooth scrolling" and "use system colors" options. The latter is very annoying because I'm running this on a Linux system and have system colors that are pleasing to me but which totally screw up web sites if applied to them.

Not that you need to know that, just that I think I should have refrained from recommending an upgrade until I had done more testing.

BTW, your sig is frightening. I hadn't seen those side-by-side before.

4. I just re-installed FF 1.0.7; problem solved
The zoom slider works just fine, think I'll need to reinstall the adblock extension - but other than that FF is back to normal. When the kinks get worked out of v1.5 I'll be happy to give it another try but it seems too buggy right now. Thanks for your suggestions - I'm running FF on Win XP Pro. System is an HP Pavilion ZV 5000 laptop, P4 3Ghz. It's a desktop replacement, a heavy 10lb beast, but that's no problem since I rarely take it anywhere except different rooms and the odd trip in a great Samsonite backpack I got at costco for $20. Almost wishing I just decided on Win 2000 as my OS, although I haven't had any significant problems with XP Pro. Bought the machine off Ebay and it came with a bootleggedcopyof XP pro which meant I was locked out of M$ updates. Bought a legit copy of the OS software on Ebay for $130. Good luck with your adventures in Linux - I'm not that advanced yet.

OT, thanks for the comment on the sig line. I borrowed it from another DUer in the 9/11 forum. I couldn't get over the similarities between those two Nazis. Feel free to copy it if you wish.
