i need help
i thought i just posted this SOS but apparently it didn't post so i'll try again. my computer is infected with something apparently and keeps restarting with the message that the nt authority\system is shutting down the computer because the DCOM server process launcher has stopped.

what do i need to do? i've tried everything i can think of including restoring windows to an earlier date, reinstalling my antivirus and doing a full scan (99 hits), and running a malware program which found nothing.

i also tried to update windows and every time i put automatic updates on it automatically is disabled. i don't know why

well gotta go now - i have 47 seconds left. terminated unexpectedly

To keep the system from shutting down, as soon as it boots do this:

go to Start>>Run>>type in "shutdown -a" (without quotes, space between n & -) press OK.

Download, update & run MalwareBytes Anti-Malware http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

7. The shutdown -a command should abort the impending shutdown
caused by the DCOM server process launcher error you described in your OP.

2. The DCOM Server shutdown is often brought on by a virus
Once you have stopped the shutdown you should be able to run AV programs to check for infection. If you continue to experience problems, I suggest you go here: BleepingComputer.com > Security > Am I infected? What do I do? http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum103.html and start a thread.

3. thank you!
i am almost certain i have some kind of virus - aargh. i do run antivirus but this is beyond it apparently. now i'm at work and when i get home i'll see if i was able to stop the restarts when i ran services.msc and changed some settings. automatic update however would not stop going back to disabled. after about 5 hours it was time to go to work. i am exhausted and distressed.

5. Two setting to change should help. Right click MyComputer regular click properities, then
1) click on remote tab and clear the remote assistance box if checked.(this closes a common virus path)
2) click on advanced tab and then in the Startup and Recovery pane click on settings and clear the automatic restart box if checked.(make it easier)
