Help with a Linux wireless issue.
My little Averetec laptop gave up the XP ghost this weekend. Since I really only use it as a web browser, I installed a copy of the PCLinux2007 distro that I had previously downloaded. I installed it with no problems, except it does not recognize my Belkin N wireless notecard that I use for connecting to my home Linksys router. I assume I need Linux drivers, but I'm not 100% sure as I can't get the system to check the CD-Rom and confirm it.

Anyone have some suggestions on how to install the wireless card? Do I need to locate Linux drivers at the Belkin website? If I find them...what do I do next?

1. Belkin is a pain ...

Too bad you didn't have a newer distro lying around as there has been a lot of wireless support added into the kernel for various devices recently.

Anyway, there is no "linux driver" for it probably. Belkin doesn't support Linux at all. What you'll have to do to get it working is use the Windows driver and ndiswrapper. This is going to require some command line work.

2. Thanks Roy
The install routine did suggest the ndiswrapper option which I checked. howeve, I couldn't get the software to find the cdrom where the software was located.

3. I would suggest...
Turning off the internal wireless device, and getting yourself a third-party PC card with the Atheros chipset on it. That is what I did, after having enough of the Broadcom two-step, and it works flawlessly. The MADWifi modules work superbly and the wireless is impeccable.
