Connecting new mac book to our home network?
The new mac book we've got is giving us trouble getting connected to my secured network at home. I don't recall having any such problem with the work laptop I bring home. We can connect by someone's local unsecured network, but seem to be having difficulty with my own.

I've got the settings that I saved exactly from when I set up the router.

Is this a mac vs. window thing? Something else we need to know?

TIA

1. what are the symptoms?
do you have a router that provides an IP address? do you have to configure it manually?

can you see the router? etc.

2. Apple seems to think
it's the router - Linksys wrt54g apparently doesn't play nicely with Macs.

Their suggestion is to reset the router's pw - says it's probably encrypted now, and re-setting will un-encrypt and therefore make it possible to connect the mac properly.

I'm concerned that in so doing, it will screw up the connection for my other two computers...

3. Ok - I got it
It seems when they say "password", they don't mean "password", they mean the first key number. Would have been easier if they just said so, lol.

So after a very nice but horribly connected phone call to linksys, I got it solved.

Thanks for jumping in, though - I love this place!
