"Secure Socket Layer" question
A friend is getting error messages when trying to get into his secure sites such as his craigslist account or his online banking, etc. The screen comes up "Page cannot be displayed" and the message refers to the secure socket layer. He's got win 98se and an AOL dialup account because he doesn't use the net that much. Then a few weeks ago he started getting these error messages and couldn't connect to his secure sites. Also saw a message about "active x" being unabe to run. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thnx in advance.

1. What browser is he using?
If Firefox, click tools, options and then select the advanced icon at the top right and verify both protocols (SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0) are checked.

If Internet Explorer, click tools, internet options. Click the advanced tab and scroll down to the security section and make sure SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 are checked. (2.0 shouldn't need to be checked, but if the others are already, try checking it)

I am guessing these may have inadvertently been unchecked.

2. He connects with AOL and then I tried Internet Explorer
with no luck Next I downloaded Firefox with the same reult. I will check his protocols in the tools options when I go back to try again tomorrow. Would reinstalling his Win 98 OS from the restore disks correct the problem? Thanks for any suggestions.
