Before we write her off as barmy, it's worth mentioning that Crane's clothing is edible. She is a gastronomic tailor - she makes clothing out of food - and is part of the Experimental Food Society, a collection of artists who will display their creations at a "spectacular" at the Truman Brewery in east London this weekend.

"I was looking for creative alternatives to the fast-fashion and throwaway clothes that we buy now," says Crane, who trained in fashion design. "The impact on the environment and limited resources means the production we use can't continue, so I started looking for alternatives in my kitchen. Everything can be rehydrated and remoulded, so when you don't want to wear an item of clothing any more, you can turn it into something else."

The precise recipes for Crane's creations are secret but often include seaweed, gelatine and natural colourings and flavourings that will be heated, boiled and frozen until, at least a week later, they become an item of clothing. "

Esp if the materials that she is using can be manipulated to behave like fabric.

Ha. Imagine a party of the future where everybody samples everybody else's clothes. :D
