Any music we all like?
Silly question, I know, but as I enjoy y'all so much, and feel like reading here, I thought someones might have a song or two to contribute!

3. Personally, anything but country or rap

This was popular when I posted it on a rainy monday a few months ago (quality better in this version): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFabjc6mFk4&feature=related

Generally, I find I like listening to "older style" music. Old-style swing, crooning, whatever. Believe me, I have a rock collection to blow your speakers off, but when cooking, I go for the more settled timeless variety.

my 'classical' station had bruckner; RITZ much more compelling, at the moment!

And here's Gene Kelly!

5. This is still one of my very favorites currently.

Better Man by John Butler Trio

Three great solos and I love the way they wrap it up at the end.

Edit to add: Dagnabbit! That video cut short the ending. This one should work better, I hope.

6. Here's one of my very favorites - a clip of the much longer 1938 Carnegie Hall original
This will wake you up when you're sleepy or help you add a proper amount of spice!

12. That's good chopping music
I have that whole concert on CD.

I did concert and theater lighting and I have to admit Benny Goodman was a royal pain in the ass, not exacting, just nasty.

He earned the right, I guess.

20. Consider that I was a kid
and since I was doing lighting, not a snappy dresser.

A lot of that generation didn't react well to female slobs with pipe wrenches.

I cut them some slack if they were real giants like Goodman.

I did earn the respect of their crews, though.

15. ANYTHING Mel Brooks -
it's always brilliant, always funny, always memorable. No one will ever match that guy in terms of what he brought forth.

I'm gonna watch "High Anxiety" one more time this week, I think.

9. I like oldies.
By oldies I mean doo wop, rock and roll and street corner type harmonies. The CD in the player in my car has a mix of Dion and the Belmonts, Bobby Darrin, The Beach Boys, Little Anthony, etc.

18. BB!!
You're a trip, elleng. My husband is seriously into the Blues, plays the 'harp' (harmonica) and has played with a blues band for 10 years before we moved from NJ, and he's really good!! BB, Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Kim Wilson et. al have lived with me figuratively for 28 years.

Recently he's made a few compilations of the Motown Sounds for me. Those are the songs I grew up with and know the words so I don't need to hear them to enjoy the music. His only request is that I don't sing along when he's home. :P

I just had a fit of lol - this is the C&B forum and not the R&B? I love you guys :grouphug:

I just had an impulse to try music here! As to Motown, those are MY songs, too! How lucky you are to have a musical husband!

I love going to google/utube, and looking around. Found this earlier; its one of my absolute favorites, tho I don't care for opera much.

23. Marvin Gaye - "Got to Give it Up" will keep you moving
for at least 8 minutes and 36 seconds. Then you can play it again.

24. Love that song.
The first time I ever heard it was on a mixed tape given to me by a college boyfriend. The tape had songs from English Beat, R.E.M, Roxy Music and other icons of the early eighties. Gaye's special gift earned him fame from the fifties through the seventies and he could still could blend seamlessly on a compilation with singers who were in diapers when he was getting started.

The news of his death is a vivid college memory. Can you imagine what he might have produced in the nineties and beyond? What a loss.
