Is granola easy to make?
I am eating some cereal with granola in it and it so good. I may want to make some one day but I don't know how difficult it would be. I don't really like things that take forever to make.

5. Interesting 'history!'
This simple but lovely granola comes from the Green Mountain Inn in Stowe, Vermont. I love the addition of maple syrup! A little history: Sylvester Graham develops Graham flour and Graham Crackers; later, Dr. James C. Jackson uses sheets of baked Graham flour, broken up, rebaked and broken up again to create "Granula". Then Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, a Seventh Day Adventist and director of their Battle Creek Sanitarium, develops a mix of baked and rebaked whole grains, and also calls it "Granula", which was later made famous by Charles W. Post, remaking it and calling it Grape Nuts.

2. I used to bang out 10 pounds at a time for a local health food store
and yes, it's very easy. All you need are the jelly roll pans to toast the stuff in the oven.

Other than that, it's just a question of making the syrup, mixing the dry ingredients and then mixing the syrup into them.

Oh, it helps to have a huge bowl, too.

A side benefit is the way your house will smell for a couple of days.

3. It's simple. I've been making this recipe since 1972
6 c. rolled oats
1 c. raw wheat germ
1 c. raw sesame seeds
1 c. raw sunflower seeds
1 c. flaked coconut
1 c. instant milk powder
1 c. vegetable oil
1 c. honey
1 c. raisins (or dried dates, dried mango (yum), dried apricots, etc)

Preheat oven to 250 F. Mix everything but the dried fruit in the largest bowl you have. Spread the mixture onto two cookie sheets and bake about 30 minutes, stirring every now and then.

Add the dried fruit and bake for 30 more minutes. Remove from oven and let cool before placing into an airtight container. I use a 3 lb. coffee can.

I would take this when back packing :-).

4. Incredibly easy. I don't have the requisite jelly roll pan, so I bake mine
in my giant roasting pan (that I use every ten years or so for a big turkey). I should call it my granola pan instead.
