Evolutionary Psychologists are Mysogenist pigs (that's a church, bytheway)
Edited on Tue Jan-06-09 02:17 AM by Triana
Freepers LOVE it. (of course)

Google Satoshi Kanazawa, for instance for an example of what passes for scientific fact these days with the staunch mysogenist set. You'll find some rather shocking assertions by him which are based mostly on his opinion and the remainder on incomplete, poorly researched, ill-drawn conclusions - and part of those from a dead guy who co-authored his latest book. From the grave. Apparently.

He's the Ann Coulter/Rush Limbaugh/Howie Stern/Reverend Wright of The Church of Evolutionary Psychology. If you think radical Islam, Mormonism, or Scientology is bad, wait'll you get a load of the Church of Evolutionary Psychology.

Here's some 'take' on his trash "science":

And here's some of his trash "science" that I can hardly believe PT would publish over there - even though PT isn't a serious journal, still...the likes of Kanazawa is beneath even them.

He's the Freeper's Reverend Wright...and a walking example of (the lack of) evolution of certain human males. Still dragging those knuckles and beating women over the head with a club and dragging them around by their hair (or boobs, as it were...)

1. A certain type of person will always twist scientific jargon
to justify being a privileged boor.

This guy is no exception.

Take away his sense of masculine entitlement and there is nothing left of him.

2. You should take a look at Sarah Hrdy for an alternative take on evolutionary psychology.
They're not all misogynistic troglodytes, (though too many of them are).

3. I love this one....
"Similarly, men make more money than women do simply because they want to (and women have better things to do than make money)."

From "Women have better things to do than make money III"
By Satoshi Kanazawa on December 28, 2008 in The Scientific Fundamentalist

So women want to be poor and get paid 25% less for the same job. Obviously women just don't like money. Yeah right, tell that to Cindy McCain and Paris Hilton.

4. That's what I mean...this crap is his opinion - not science. It isn't based on anything
concrete - just assumptions garnered from vague evolutionary data (which can be interpreted multiple ways and from which he excludes pertinent facts to suit himself and his mysogenist attitudes) - and with the assumption that people haven't evolved or changed since.

It's pure horse-puckey. Of course his fellow mysogenists love it and that's how he sells his books.

6. I like evolutionary psychology

My own version. The one where the species survives by developing an innate sense of collective responsibility and constantly expanding the concept of the collective to and for which each member is responsible.

I also like my version of social Darwinism. The one that says that the more diverse a population is, the greater chance of success / survival it has.

I'll take a gander at your troglodyte. ;)

15. There are aspects of it that appeal to me, as well.
Reciprocal altruism, for one, as well as the switch to agriculture and villages over hunting and gathering.

7. Sounds about as "scientific" as the explanation I saw many years ago
"explaining" the typical shape of the female body as having evolved "because it was more pleasing to the male." :eyes:

8. This thread needs an Evo Psych bingo card.
It's all you need when confronted with one of its adherents.

BTW, Psychology Today is enamored with junk science that upholds the patriarchy. Always has been.

14. The Bingo Card always hurts their fee fees.
Must be the slot describing them as "undergrads who can't get laid".

16. Ah, oh wow. I feel like I can relate and if only I had things like that before
So many occasions things like this would have come in handy. I've had quite the bouts with these people and this thread makes me feel much better.

The only thing I take issue with this the "can't get laid" part.
It upholds their ideas of the "alpha male", men with money, ladder theory, and "women give sex to get love, men give love to get sex".
