'Glowing' jellyfish grabs Nobel
A clever trick borrowed from jellyfish has earned two Americans and one Japanese scientist a share of the chemistry Nobel Prize.

Martin Chalfie, Roger Tsien and Osamu Shimomura made it possible to exploit the genetic mechanism responsible for luminosity in the marine creatures.

Today, countless scientists use this knowledge to tag biological systems.

These glowing markers will show how brain cells develop or cancer cells spread through tissue.

1. Yep, I'm very familiar with this technology
Some people think that scientists did this "just cause" (especially when they see the glow in the dark mice that are used) but its a fantastic breakthrough and has already led to many many scientific breakthroughs.
Kudos to these scientists!:toast:

Can't imagine cell/mol bio/biophysics without EGFP these days. It is just one of those incredibly useful tools and it is good to see that Tsien etc. get their due.

4. Well deserved!
Congrats to Dr. Tsien! His discovery allowed scientists to easily track protein distribution, function, and interactions. Absolutely an invaluable tool!

I take it from your screen name that you are a molecular biologist perhaps a geneticist of some sort? We always need more scientific types here!:) :hi:

6. will done !
the excellence of every art is its intensity , capable of making all disagreeables evaporate from their being in close relationship with beauty and truth .

I feel this will have a great overwhelming in pact on science maybe as big as the computer.

will done great job ! John
