The Citizen Scientist
This electronic publication is published by the Society for Amateur Scientists, an organization dedicated to helping people enrich their lives by following their passion to take part in scientific adventures of all kinds. Our members run the gamut from professional scientists with Ph.D.s to young people with a thirst to understand the world around them.

The Citizen Scientist is a tool, a forum, a gallery of uncommon ingenuity. Every week we publish news, ideas, and techniques from the amateur scientist community. Our goal is to educate and empower those who enjoy testing the limits of their genius and experience against the wonders and mysteries of science and technology.

1. The Citizen Scientist is a great reference
I got my start as a kid with a Gilbert Chemistry set I got for Christmas. After I set my grandfathers cellar on fire, I switched to non-flammable science endeavors like snakes, frogs, and worms.

It's too bad 'Citizen Scientist' was not around 50 yrs ago, maybe the world's biodiversity would not be so damaged. As a marine biologist I have watched all 14 of the planet's major fisheries (e.g., Georges Bank, Grand Banks, etc.) collapse in just my lifetime. We need to attract more people to the world of science, which makes 'Citizen Scientist' a good tool.

2. Fly in the ointment: Forrest M. Mims III, editor of "The Citizen Scientist" ...
is a proponent of so-called "Intelligent Design" and a Global Warming (GW) skeptic:

I saw his name on more than a few articles in the old Popular Electronics magazine. As long as he sticks to electronic gadgets, OK, but Scientific American turned him down as an editor of its "Amateur Scientist" column.
