Alleged 40,000-yr-old human footprints, much older than thought
~BERKELEY – Alleged footprints of early Americans found in volcanic rock in Mexico are either extremely old - more than 1 million years older than other evidence of human presence in the Western Hemisphere - or not footprints at all, according to a new analysis published this week in Nature...

"You're really only left with two possibilities," Renne said. "One is that they are really old hominids - shockingly old - or they're not footprints."~ :wow:

5. If They Formed When the Rock Was Soft
that would mean hominids would be walking over hot lava -- am I interepreting that right? Doesn't sound very plausible.

Nothing unbelievable about early hominids making it to the New World. They would probably not have evolved in parallel with the line that became humans, and probably would have become extinct. But it certainly would rewrite history.

6. Actually the prints look like
Actually, from what I've read, the prints look like modern shoe prints (shod with heels) apparently in a normal walking pattern.

8. That's What the Photo Looked Like
but the image was to small to be sure.

Who knows -- maybe they walked through the mud so much they evolved feet like construction boots. But more indicates a hoax or a natural phenomenon that looks like footprints.

11. Volcanic rock, man. Volcanic.
Even construction boots would burst into flame when touching soft volcanic rock.

I'm gonna go with "not really footprints" for 500, Alex.

9. "or they are not footprints."
I think that's the key phrase here.
