Grape extract kills cancer cells (BBC)
An extract from grape seeds can destroy cancer cells, US research suggests.

In lab experiments, scientists found that the extract stimulated leukaemia cells to commit suicide.

Within 24 hours, 76% of leukaemia cells exposed to the extract were killed off, while healthy cells were unharmed, Clinical Cancer Research reports.

The study raises the possibility of new cancer treatments, but scientists said it was too early to recommend that people eat grapes to ward off cancer.

The researchers found grapeseed extract activates a protein called JNK which helps to regulate apoptosis.

I'll bet Big Pharma is now trying to think of ways of patenting grape seeds!

8. Shhhh!
Not so loud...the blood pressure patients over at the Skepticism forum will pop a gasket over this!! There are so many natural things that have been proven effective, but the cancer industry really hates for the truth to come out!

Very good results...
Like you said, so many of the old-fashioned remedies have proven effective, much to the chagrin of Big Pharma.

1: Nutr Res. 2008 May;28(5):315-20.
Reduction of cardiovascular risk factors in subjects with type 2 diabetes by Pycnogenol supplementation.

Fasting plasma glucose declined by 23.7 mg/dL in Pycnogenol-treated group vs 5.7 mg/dL in control group (P < .0001). Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol improved significantly in Pycnogenol-treated group, declining by 12.7 mg/dL (P < .001). A significant decrease in urinary albumin level was observed at week 8 compared with the control group (P < .05). However, this reduction was not significant at 12th week.

After 12 weeks of supplementation, Pycnogenol resulted in improved diabetes control, lowered CVD risk factors, and reduced antihypertensive medicine use vs controls.

5. Science by press release should be viewed skeptically
Lets wait until it goes through peer review, gets published, and other scientists have a chance to repeat the findings and review the protocols used. If science was done by press release, we'd have cold fussion.

9. I used grapeseed oil for massaging for yrs, then got a bad batch
and now am sensitive/allergic to it. I figured that rubbing it on people, and into my hands/arms for hours a day was a good thing. I got a contaminated batch from a large massage stuff store, broke out on my arms as did a couple clients. Now I can't use even good grapeseed oil as it causes a nasty rash.

12. Of course killing cancer cells in a petri dish is a little different...
than killing them in a living person who has cancer. But that doesn't stop the science-bashers from launching into personal attacks and wild "cancer industry" paranoid conspiracy theories. I welcome ANY news the brings us closer to a cancer cure - and this may or may not pan out. I sure hope it does.
