Makers of Airborn offer refund for false advertising
Edited on Fri Mar-07-08 02:08 PM by TechBear_Seattle
Airborne doesn't work: get a refund

...

The maker of Airborne "cold medicine" (said to be created by a second-grade teacher) is offering refunds to anyone who bought it, up to $23.3 million, pretty much for false advertising.

"There's no credible evidence that what's in Airborne can prevent colds or protect you from a germy environment," said David Schardt, a senior nutritionist with the non-profit Center for Science in the Public Interest in a CNNMoney.com story. "Airborne is basically an overpriced, run-of-the-mill vitamin pill that's been cleverly, but deceptively, marketed."

In the same breath, a letter in this week's Journal of the American Medical Association shows people will say a placebo (or sugar pill) works if they think it's more expensive.

3. I have a magical necklace that wards off tiger attacks
Since getting it five years ago, I have not once been attacked by a tiger. There it must work. :hi:

I never understood how a second grade teacher could figure out what high trained and very well funded scientists have tried for years to manage. Apparently, there was nothing to figure out.

5. Zinc has been studied, and it's an ingredient in airborne.
But their ad campaign went overboard apparently. ;)

6. I don't believe it.
I am quite a bit healthier since I started taking airborne during cold-flu season. I'm the only one in the family that doesn't get sick.
