Excuse the mangled subject line. The endeavor to build a memorial site for the homosexual victims of National Socialism has finally gotten underway, since it passed the Bundestag back in 2003. It is a pretty big story in the regional media, but completely ignored by the international outlets. Yet I think it might be of interests for some people here.My (rather poor - sorry) translation:
Berlin: commemorating murdered homosexuals.
With a colloquium on Thursday and Friday in the state Parliament of Berlin the art competition "Memorial site for the homosexuals prosecuted under Nazi rule" will be started. The event is aimed at artists, the media and members of the homosexual community, according to a city senate spokesperson.
The two-day colloquium is intended to set the frame for the competition, which will be held later this year. The importance of the memorial for the Federal Republic and the Gay/Lesbian community will be the main subject of the event. In addition, the concentration camp Sachsenhausen and other memorial sites will be visited.
