Dead parents better than gay ones says Romney

I REALLY hate this guy! I am no fan of Rudy's but I don't think he would even say something this cruel!

Dead parents better than gay ones says Romney

A candidate for the Republican party nomination for President of the United States has said that he thinks a child would be better off with a dead parent rather than a gay one.

Mitt Romney, a former Governor of Massachusetts, was speaking at a college in rural Iowa.

Asked what he would say to a gay couple wanting to get married, he pointed out his support for a change to the US Constitution to bar gay and lesbian Americans from marriage.

"I believe that maintaining the strength of the marriage relationship, the family relationship, is critical to the strength of an entire society," he said, according to Rocky Mountain News.

"And I believe that the development of children is enhanced by having a male and a female as part of their upbringing in their home.

"Even when there's a divorce, you still have a mom and a dad.

"And even where one member of the partnership may pass away, the memory and the characteristics of that gender, of that partner influence the development of a child.

"I'm in favour of promoting, as a society, the marriage of men and women and the development of children in that kind of setting."

1. I'd like to put Romney in a pet carrier, attach it to the top of my car, go on a 12 hour drive
and then go Thelma and Louise with the car. Better yet, I'd like for Rudy and Fred to be driving.

12. Fred should drive.
A better chance he'll fall asleep at the wheel.

13. Reminds me of a sign I used to have
It was along the lines of: "When I die, I'd like to go peacefully in my sleep like my grandmother. Not screaming like the passengers in her car."

:hi:

2. Insane Comment
I know a lot of GOPers are bigoted, but you'd think they'd learn to keep their mouth shut on occasion! I agree about Rudy, I don't believe he feels this way at all, though he's not one of my favorite people in the world.

27. Hate speech against gays is the OLD normal.
Even among left wingers. Before the 1970s, anyway.

It didn't come up so much in public discourse because our having equality wasn't even under discussion yet.

4. I never knew Mittens was a developmental psychologist!
Oh, yeah, I forgot...he's not. I guess that would mean he is just talking out of his ass (surprise!). It's funny, because what I thought children needed more than a mother and a father was parents that love them. Not that I'm a developmental psychologist, either, but I don't think it requires a PhD to understand that the love you get from your parents is more important than their gender.

5. They all talk out of their asses
Because that's all they can do when it comes to the topic. The facts dispute them, so they have to rely on propaganda and lies.

9. Did he ask any children how they felt about it?
Ask the children who lost a parent in Iraq ... or on 9/11. Let's see what THEY would rather have, you bigoted ass! :grr:

21. What?
I beleive I agree with your outrage but I miss your point. Ask the children of one killed in Iraq or 9/11 if they would rather have their dead parent back or their surviving parent happily married to a gay spouse?!? What kind of question is that? Is the answer supposed to be obvious. All a bit Miss America beffudled to me; Maps... In The Iraq.... And Africa too....

14. Too bad for Romney's kids that he's not dead.
I'm sure they'd be much better off with a dead parent, than one who's so filled with hate. God forbid one of them should turn out to be gay, (statistically likely).

16. Will the Log Cabin folks endorse him if he's the nominee?
They're gay and lesbian, just like us. I would THINK they would find this comment as despicable, as ugly, as bigoted, as vile, as contemptible as we do.

This is one of the most shameful comments I've ever heard a politician make. Ever.

Romney couldn't be more wrong. I would have taken any loving parent over dead parents. He has no clue.

edit to add: He's a heartless dickhead.

19. I am like Bill Clinton, our fathers died before we were born. My grandfather raised me as a father
figure until he died when I was six. It was the most traumatic event of my life, losing my grandfather; I would have taken him any way he came so long as he was there.

22. As the Child of A Man Who was Gay
and who is now dead, I'd take Dad back just as he was in a heartbeat. He was gay and he was my father -- need I add that I loved him?

Romney has the flaw that every single Republican candidate has...he is without imagination or empathy. He cannot imagine any way of life but his own -- therefore, his is the only 'proper' way to live and everybody who doesn't live his way is wrong, degraded and immoral. He is emotionally blinded by his lack of empathy and if he wasn't such a scum-sucking, plastic SOB, I'd feel sorry for him.

23. How Jonathan Swift of him...
Scary how much this line of thinking reminded me of "A Modest Proposal".... Scary because it is not too far from eating the babies without the IRONY.

I try to give him the benefit of the doubt because the article doesn't appear to be a full accounting of the transcript, but I just cannot. And this is a "politician" responding to the idea of a gay couple wanting to get married. Drop the feel good rhetoric Mitt and tell us what you really think! No, wait... Please don't.
