2. yup
I most certainly think so, although I am sure the poster of that thread would disagree. I believe some don't even realize they are being homophobic because it is so ingrained. they figure if they aren't yelling "fag" then they arent.

8. Ah, yes. I remember being 17 once.
I used to think I wasn't being homophobic the my boss told me he was gay, and I cheerfully congratulated him, "Wow, I would never have known."

Realizing that I was young and stupid but well-intentioned, he politely said, "Oh, thank you!"

If I ever see him again, I'll have to remember to thank him for his understanding.

12. that is interesting
because fellow gays can say that sort of thing and not think twice about it being homophobic (ie."I never would have known") and, in lots of profiles that people provide for others to view when they go into gay chat rooms to meet, some will claim in their description that they are "straight acting" .

14. I guess you had to have been there
It was more like I was congratulating him for not being faggy.

Kind of like when Chris Rock talks about white people who remark, "Collin Powel is so well-spoken."

I've gotten better.

I promise.

15. i knew thats what you meant
mot just straight folks(i am assuming you are straight) do that but gays congratulate other gays for "not being faggy" (ie putting"straight acting" in their profiles)

9. I don't know the specific event to which the post referres,
but I know that I do not support a "Gay" marriage law. I want the govenment out of ALL marriages; leave marriage to religious groups. The only union that the state should be involved in is Civil. And I believe in CIVIL RIGHTS for all.

Is that gay bashing?

11. It sure isn't supportive...
There is NO chance that the government is going to get out of the marriage business... So saying "I want the government out of ALL marriages" is just an easy way to pretend you're supporting Gay people when it actually does nothing for us.

Especially when someone puts '"Gay" marriage law' in their post... Why is it "Gay" marriage and not Gay marriage?

Doesn't sound very supportive to me.

13. I used quotes
Edited on Wed Jan-12-05 07:59 PM by mslux
because I think the term is stupid. I know it must be used to address the current unequal status. I had a religious wedding without a state license. When I became very ill years later, with mortality in my mind, we did the civil thing to protect property rights. So I know how important the right to marry is and why it should be available to all. It would be the ideal relief to get the state out of marriage, it is the bigger picture. Unless and until that happens, I support the rights of any two adults to marry.

Like other terms, African-American, Black, Gay, Queer, that have gone in and out of preferred usage, I will call it gay marriage in deference to those on whom the unequal rights apply.

17. Thanks for clarifying
Guess I totally misunderstood... I'm so used to having to defend my marriage from homophobes that I missed the point...
:dunce:

My apologies.

19. Apology Accepted
When they come after the immigrants, or Jews, or whomever, I hope we will all be standing up for their civil rights together.

20. It was deleted, so I don't know what was said.
I can't discern from the responses what was actually said, so I would have to defer to the previous posters here and accept their "yeas".
