I am sending this to all my str8 allies as a template for writing letters to the editors of their home town publications.
Supporting gay rights not slap at marriageKaren Jo Gounaud claims "Attacking traditional marriage has become the activists" most important effort in this culture war” in her May 18 column, “Voters should protect marriage.”
I am an "activist." I have been married 12 years. I have two small children. I have no interest in hurting traditional marriage nor is my marriage threatened by the inclusion of gay Americans in our society.
My most important effort, as an activist, is standing up and demanding that my gay friends be granted equal rights. They pay into our system and deserve either equality or a refund. There is no need for statistics to prove anything about them. Good and bad comes in all shapes, colors, sizes and sexual orientations. Every person in South Carolina has a friend, or brother, sister or other relative who is gay. If you love them, the least you can do is stand up for their equality on Nov. 7 and vote "No" to this discriminatory amendment.
