Alberta Premier Ralph Klein says he supports a controversial private member's bill that would allow marriage commissioners to refuse to perform same-sex marriages.

Bill 208, sponsored by rookie government member Ted Morton, would also change human rights legislation to protect people who speak out against gay marriage.

Alberta's gay community is condemning the legislation, calling it an attack on gays and an attempt to legislate discrimination.

1. For those who don't know Canada that well,

Alberta is basically the Mountain West and the Bible Belt rolled into one, with somewhat colder weather than the Bible Belt and its own oil reserves. Dubya would be Premier-for-Life if he'd gone into Alberta politics.

He should go into Rehab for his alcohol problem shortly after leaving office , something to preoccupy that bored mind so he don`t have to think much about dem gay boyz..

But, as any British Labour Party MP can tell you these days, getting someone to actually LEAVE office when they've gone bad is easier said than done.
