An official spokesperson for the government of the United Arab Emirates on Monday said that an Interior Ministry worker who suggested men arrested at a purported gay wedding could be forced by the government to receive male hormone shots was speaking only for himself.

More than two dozen people described by the government as gay were arrested at what police called "a mass homosexual wedding".

On Saturday, Esam Azouri, described as a media advisor to the government, told the Associated Press and other foreign news organizations that police, acting on a tip, raided a hotel in Ghantout, a desert region on the Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway, and found a dozen men dressed as female brides and a dozen others in male Arab dress. A mass gay wedding? I suspect it was either 1) a drag performance or 2) a party or 3) an actual gay wedding, sans wedding dresses. I'll bet the "authorities" have tried to dress this up as something that would sound sick to Arabs, but just sounds absurd to everyone else...
