Will tomorrow's children have to come out? I'm thinking ahead to a place
where people of all flavors are accepted. Don't laugh - just look at how young people across the political spectrum view the subject. There will be holdouts for a while, but at least here in the USA the tide seems to be turning.

So what happens in that new place? Presumably most people will still be straight, and most parents will expect their kids to be straight. Not demand that they be straight, just assume that that is the default. How will tomorrow's GLBT children grow up? How will they know who they are? Will models like Prince and Prince make things easier? Will GLBT kids always have to struggle to define themselves?

1. Ok I'm going to give you my view from the point of being 23
All the problems currently in the world are caused by "old people" and by that I mean people who where born between 1930 and around 1959. All generations have some "bad apples", who are bigots but the "old people" have the good majority and have been in charge for far to long. My generation has a very different view of the world and we generally do not tolerate hate and bigotry among our peers, so I predict when my generation starts getting into power, we will see a very different world from what we have today.

2. I certainly hope you're right. I'm just wondering how things will be different.
Again, I'm assuming a lot, but my guess is that most parents will raise their kids assuming that they are straight. What will happen in that theoretical time when some kids realize they aren't straight? What will it look like to come out in a world that doesn't much blink an eye? Will people come out, or will they just be?

In a sense, I'm challenging all the young folk here to consider the possibility that some day they might parent a child who is GLBT. How will you know, and how will you make that child welcome?

3. My daughter (27) freely acknowledges the very good
possibility that she and her husband will have a gay child. They, and me, believe it is genetic. Given the fact that I had one gay child out of 2, and my husband's sister had 2 gay kids out of 4, it is almost a given genetically that my daughter, and her cousins, will have gay children.

Next? Sorry, but my daughter doesn't post on here, or she would tell you herself.

4. yes, they will. as churches continue to persecute gays like the mormon and catholic church
and gays will still be a minority, it will continue to happen, well into the foreseeable future

5. I expect we'll be dealing with some bigots for a long time -
look at all the racists we still have. Still, I remember when an interracial couple was rare (and illegal in some places!), but today few even notice.

The question is, what will it be like for a young person born in a straight-majority society that welcomes GLBT people?
