Volleyball coach: church excuse is valid, but not Gay-Straight Alliance

My daughter described this exchange with her volleyball coach:

D: "I can't make the last half of the extra practice this weekend, I have a commitment already."
C: "Do your parents need to come and get you?"
D: "No, I'm staffing a booth for GSA."
C: "Forget it, not excused...if it was a church event, that's another matter."

I could confront her directly, score a point, then watch my daughter sit on the sidelines for the rest of the season. Coaches can be extremely vindictive.

I think this is my daughter's last season so will probably file a complaint at the end of the year.

8. I have to say that waiting is not a good idea if you're filing a complaint.

In any kind of formal complaint, there are going to be strong questions raised of why you waited if you found it offensive. Even with the logic you present, waiting months to file a complaint is going to completely undercut your case, and probably result in the complaint being dismissed.

The coach, as a representative of the school, is explicitly endorsing a religious activity, as well as engaging in discrimination.

If there is a chance that you can sucessfully sue, please consider it. The only thing these haters understand is court rulings--barely.
