Baptist preacher urges "Hunt-a-homo" week, burning "fags" not flags...
God is love. From Joe My God...

Readers have been sending me clips by West Virginia-based Pastor Jeff Owens for several months now and this one went up on YouTube yesterday. "We need to stop burning flags and start burning FAGS! We need Hunt-A-Homo Week. We need to take 'em all out and shoot 'em with a scatter shotgun." Owens is on a national speaking tour of Baptist churches all this year. And he's not a one-man loony show, either. His Shenandoah Baptist Church has a staff of a dozen ministers and produces events such as the East Coast Ladies Conference, where attendees are commanded to "dress modestly according to the Bible." I believe this clip was made by one of Owens' charming fans.

1. Many other nations would not permit that type of talk
as it is an incitement to violence. A clear abuse of freedom of speech, which was designed to be used responsibly by gentlemen, not rabble rousers.

5. +1
If I threaten 1 person with violence I'm considered a threat to society & I go to jail.

If I threaten 1,000,000 people with violence I'm considered a hero & I can ask for money to threaten more people.

7. I absolutley agree
Just like yelling fire in a crowded theater, or making terroristic threats are not protected speech, neither should this hate speech. At the very least, this kind of hate speech should be treated as a terroristic threat.

19. There Need to Be Limits...
if you advocate the harm of murder of a person or people it should not be covered by the First Amendment.

9. what a sterling example of Christianity.
I am proud to be a recovering christian ....and now a happier, healthier, Pagan.

This quack wants to deprive American Citizens of their constitutional rights and their lives. What a way to represent his loving (cough cough) God.

inciting riots. I think it needs to be curtailed.

15. This should be considered incitement to riot.
It's inciting the murder of a group of people, in a lynch-mob state. He's on a national tour, using interstate communications facilities and highways, so federal law would apply to him.

http://uscode.house.gov/download/pls/18C102.txt
(a) Whoever travels in interstate or foreign commerce or uses any facility of interstate or foreign commerce, including, but not limited to, the mail, telegraph, telephone, radio, or television, with intent -
(1) to incite a riot; or
(2) to organize, promote, encourage, participate in, or carry on a riot; or
(3) to commit any act of violence in furtherance of a riot; or
(4) to aid or abet any person in inciting or participating in or carrying on a riot or committing any act of violence in furtherance of a riot;

When he urges people to "burn fags" and shoot them with guns, it looks like he's trying to promote and encourage this:

Definition of riot:
(a) As used in this chapter, the term "riot" means a public disturbance involving (1) an act or acts of violence by one or more persons part of an assemblage of three or more persons, which act or acts shall constitute a clear and present danger of, or shall result in, damage or injury to the property of any other person or to the person of any other individual or (2) a threat or threats of the commission of an act or acts of violence by one or more persons part of an assemblage of three or more persons having, individually or collectively, the ability of immediate execution of such threat or threats, where the performance of the threatened act or acts of violence would constitute a clear and present danger of, or would result in, damage or injury to the property of any other person or to the person of any other individual.

It sure looks like he wants three or more people to come together to cause injury to others.

Someone should report him. Doesn't look like freedom of speech covers it.

16.  Vimeo Pulls "Shoot And Burn Gays" Clip By Pastor Jeff Owens
Vimeo Pulls "Shoot And Burn Gays" Clip By Pastor Jeff Owens

On Saturday, YouTube yanked the now infamous clip in which Shenandoah Baptist Church Pastor Jeff Owens exhorted his flock to murder homosexuals. I was able to save the clip and upload it to Vimeo, who just sent me this message.

Dear Joe Jervis:

Your video 'Shenandoah Baptist Church's Pastor Jeff Owens: BURN AND SHOOT FAGS!(11950437)' has been removed for violating the Upload Rules of Vimeo.com: Vimeo does not allow TV shows, movie trailers, or stuff you found on the web. If you believe this was an error, please reply to this email in a civil manner with your reasoning ("I see other people do it" is not a valid reason).

Regards,
Vimeo

The day after the clip went up on Vimeo, Owens published an apology to his church's website, saying that the clip was recorded 15 years ago, when he was "young, stupid, and immature." Stupid, surely, but not so young...Owens had been preaching for nearly 20 years by then.

In less than 48 hours that Vimeo clip was reposted on more than 100 sites, including the Huffington Post. I imagine that Owens forced Vimeo to take it down. But don't worry, I'll find private hosting for the clip shortly and ensure that it continues to live in infamy.

23. One would think such a minister would be defrocked.
It is a measure of the vile nature of most right of center Christianity that such hate filled speech is not only tolerated, but applauded.
