:toast: That cartoon really makes the point, eh? The American military is seriously short of troops right now. That's why there's this "stop-loss" bullshit. The Armed Forces need every soldier they can get.

BTW, I'm thinking about a scene from an episode of "The West Wing" where a couple of politicians are discussing gays in the military with the Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, an Admiral. That character was played by John Amos, who is a big, impressive-looking African-American man. The politicians were spouting the usual stuff about how allowing gays into the military would be disruptive and bad for morale, etc. The Admiral said (paraphrasing) "Uh huh. And fifty years ago, they would have said the same thing about me."
