deductibe or not. My receipt doesn't say either way.

3. They are deductible
From their website: Lambda Legal is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. All contributions to Lambda Legal are fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

2. No. It's a political organization.
You should have given your money to the Mormon church if you wanted to meddle in politics tax-free.

4. It is not a political organization
It's work is litigation, public education and advocacy on behalf of equality and civil rights for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and people with HIV - not lobbying.

6. 's okay
Lambda Legal provided legal counsel for the appeal on our second parent adoption - so we've been returning the favor with annual donations (and have been deducting them every year).

FWIW, HRC also has a 501(c)(3) "arm" to which tax deductible donations can be made - the HRC Foundation. Unless you go hunting for an alternative, Donations to HRC are generally go to the General Fund or PAC - and you are correct that those are not tax deductible. Equality Ohio - my sig org - has the same structure. The dual structure makes it possible to attract large donors who need the tax deduction and can be called on to support the non-political activities of the organization.
