page and 'recommend' (see bottom of original post aka 'op') adds votes to move the thread to 'greatest'. once a thread has 5 recommendations, it goes to the 'greatest' from 'latest' thread category.

6. Welcome to DU!! And thanks for asking. Others may be wondering, too.
K&R stands for "kicked and recommended". To "kick" a thread is to make a post in that thread. When a post is added to a thread, that thread goes to the top of its page, making sure others will see it. So, if you want people to notice a thread, but have nothing really to add yourself, you can simply give it a "kick".

"Recommend" is a reference to the "recommend" icon at the bottom of each original post (first post in a thread). If enough people click on "recommend", the thread gets listed with a link on the "greatest page". A lot of people who don't want to spend a lot of time reading through the threads will just look at the greatest page, to see what others are finding interesting.

So, a kick moves a thread to the top of its group or forum page. Recommends move it to the greatest page.

Another thing you'll see often is "nt" or "n/t". This means "no text", meaning the entire message is contained in the subject line--there's no need to take the time to click on the message, because the message itself is empty. A variation on this is "eom", "end of message".

Thanks, again, for asking. Good to have you with us! :hi:

7. Welcome to du.
And 'n/t' in the subject line means no text - so you don't have to open the message as there ain't anything there

'eom' means end of message.

Those were the two that always left me stumped

12. Welcome to DU!
Don't let anyone insult you for having a low post count, it's against the rules. But some people think they're above the rules, including regulars here.
