Players rank NFL turf conditions
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05048/458818.stm

It's interesting to see which stadiums have the best playing conditions. What's sad for me is that I no longer recognize the names of the stadiums. It's like they get new names every other year. They all get corporate sponsors now, not many Lambeau Fields or Soldier Fields anymore.

2. Good to see Alltell (Ex-Gator Bowl) in the Top Ten

...It's just too bad they're gonna have to cover seats - but let's face it, an NFL franchise in JAcksonville just CANNOT draw Gator-Bowl-level attendance every week.

On Edit/Reread: The survey only measures the grass itself

3. Heinz Field at 27
They must have retarded groundskeepers. Every year they retool the surface there. I know they play a ton of games on that field (Pitt, Steelers, and High School games) and having a good portion of the fall with at least 3 games played on it doesn't help...

but jeez...

4. Damn, when you see all of them listed like that...
...it's appalling to see how many corporate names there are out there.

5. WTF?
How does Paul Brown Stadium rank 22nd? They put in field turf before last year, which is supposed to be pretty popular with the players, and I think less than half the stadiums have it - I know Seattle has it, and they're #5.

Do you think some of the players were probably giving rankings not on playing surface alone, even though that's what the question asks? It seems fishy that the top 4 are all warm-climate cities.

6. The Linc is No. 9. A far cry from The Vet days.
I've been down on the field there and it is very nice. It just gets a little crappy at the end of the season because of the weather but still holds up well. Domes and astroturf should be outlawed.

7. The tuen and the cold weather joints are at the bottom.
Philly is amazing. It was the worst place by far. Now it's one of the best.

8. Gillette Stadium only 21st?
Well, that might have something to do with the fact that the field turns into a swamp with any kind of precipitation.

11. It still ain't something anyone wants to play on if they don't have to.
Get rid of the dome. Put a hole in the roof. Do something. No reason a team in Minnesota should be playing inside.

10. I've been on the turf of Sun Devil Stadium
It's really nice, had no idea it was the 2nd best to play on from the players point of view.

13. Soldier Field Is 23rd? Why?
Has anyone found a link to this survey to see why a natural grass field would rank so low? There's bunches of artificial surfaces ranked better. I wonder why.
