Favre over Pennington in the Pro Bowl--- What a fucking joke.
<snip>
Pennington has a 95.1 passer rating (second in the AFC) to Favre's 86.5 (seventh).

Miami is on pace to set an all-time NFL record for fewest turnovers -- largely because Pennington's six interceptions and 1.5 pick percentage lead the conference. Favre? Mr. Pro Bowl's 17 interceptions are the most in the entire league.

``The -- most -- in -- the -- entire -- league!''

Even when you factor in touchdown passes, Pennington's TD-INT differential is plus-8 to Favre's plus-4.

Passing yardage? Pennington has 3,218 to Favre's 3,052. (Chad's pace of 3,678 yards would give him the most by any Miami quarterback since Dan Marino in 1997.)

Average gain per pass attempt? This may be the single most telling quarterback stat. Pennington averages 7.81 yards to Favre's 6.77.

As for team impact, well, give Favre enormous credit for inheriting a 4-12 team and having it 9-5.

And then give Pennington even more credit for fashioning the same 9-5 record from a team that was 1-15 last year.

Oh, and that's despite Favre having much greater surrounding talent -- at least based on the Jets' NFL-leading seven Pro Bowl players (including two offensive linemen) to Miami's two.

Favre has the AFC's leading rusher, two wide receivers with more catches and yards than any Dolphin and a tight end and running back with more catches than any Dolphin. And yet despite all that help, Favre's passer rating is 10th among the 15 quarterbacks with at least 400 pass attempts. Pennington's is third.

That's because Favre has an advantage even beyond having more offensive weapons and better blockers.

1. Pretty sad when the two best qb's in the AFC are Favre and Pennington!
What about Manning and Roethlisberber(sp)?

35. Or Cutler and Rivers.
Or Flacco, Collins, Schaub, Thigpen... oh, you get the idea.

Shoot, even that Harvard kid can out-play Farve right now. Okay, that may be stretching it....

But hey, Madden evidently had his bro-mance votes count by the pound.

2. More importantly.
Who cares about the Pro Bowl?

I nearly faint from boredom half way through the first quarter.

3. I read an artical which suggesting making a "pro-bowl" award similar
to the "all-american" award in College. There would be no actual pro bowl, like there is no all-american bowl in college. Though there are a crap load of senior, east-west, north-south, etc. bowls.

There would be no actual pro bowl

14. That's better!
:bounce:

In fact, the year after 9/11, I actually suggested that. Because the season was pushed back by a week, the new SB date conflicted with a convention already booked at the Superdome. So, I thought, why not play it where the NFL already had a stadium and rooms booked -- Honolulu?

Of course, that would have meant stealing what so far has been NOLA's last SB. Very bad karma, indeed.

7. The pro bowl is indeed an even bigger wank-fest than other all-star games,
which is saying something.

But St. Brett, he just seems to have such an eminently kissable heinie. As was pointed out elsewhere on this thread, just ask John Madden.

4. Why is this a surprise?

That's how the Pro Bowl has always worked. Past accomplishments and reputation have gotten many players in whose production was nowhere near where it used to be.

5. Have you seen Favre's hands?
They're @#$% HUGE!!1!

Ask John *salivate* Madden.

Hands like that deserve to go to the Pro Bowl.

Every year!

6. Welcome to my (new) world trumad
I was probably the only packer fan in the world that question his selection last year as "Sportsman of the year"...I think it was a DU post

But now, with our 5-9 record, a majority of Packer fans are calling for the GM and the coaches to be fired. A majority of them claim that it is b/c they didnt take BF back that we suck.

Lets see, we have the worst defense in the NFL. It is b/c Favre is not on the team!
we have the most penalties in the league....without Favre is why
our punter sucked....b/c Favre was not there
we lost 6 games by 5 points or less due to not having Favre

Arod has better stats than Fvare and has put us inposition to win 3 games in a row with 4th quarter comebacks

I hope the Dolphins beat the snot out of the Jets

16. The Packers would be about 3-11 with Favre starting.
Rodgers has more touchdowns and fewer interceptions than Favre, playing on a team w/ arguably less talent. Getting rid of Favre was the right thing to do.

18. Well Your Pack Put A Whoopin' On My Bears
The Bears are better than i thought they'd be, but up in Green Bay, they looked like what i expected for the whole season. They stunk, the Pack played well, and the Bears got torched.

9. As far as passer rating goes...
Favre's not even the 2nd best QB in the AFC EAST. Pennington is #2, Cassel is #6, Favre is #7 and Edwards is #8 in the AFC. Favre's overall numbers don't really stack up all that well against Cassel either.

Pennington was robbed.

15. Maybe this'll cheer you up:
Pro Bowl list includes 7 former Miami Hurricanes

http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/colleges/story/817067.html

Seven former University of Miami players top the list of 2009 NFL Pro Bowl selections, most of any school in the nation.

<snip>

"When the University of Miami resumes football practice Thursday in preparation for the Emerald Bowl, perhaps the Hurricanes will be at least partly inspired by this nugget: Seven former Hurricanes top the list of 2009 NFL Pro Bowl selections.

The seven selected to represent their current NFL teams are the most of any school in the nation.

Those heading to Hawaii this February include wide receivers Andre Johnson (Houston Texans) and Reggie Wayne (Indianapolis Colts), running back Clinton Portis (Washington Redskins), linebackers Ray Lewis (Baltimore Ravens) and Jon Beason (Carolina Panthers), safety Ed Reed (Baltimore Ravens) and punter Jeff Feagles (New York Giants)."

A few weeks ago I heard there had been a local campaign to vote Redskins in..for awhile there were FOURTEEN Skins leading in their spots. I love my Skins, but even I find that..excessive to say the least.

24. And I Agree With That Too
I think this is one case where the fans should not be voting. Really, can a fan accurately vote for the best guard, or right tackle, or strong safety? I watch pretty carefully, and i only know which guard, right tackle, or strong safety isn't good enough!

He is clearly the NFC MVP so far. IMHO

Also Tony Gonzalez is great yes but he plays in KC so who cares? The Steelers TE Miller should be there.

I'm wondering if Favre might now bag it, particularly if Jets don't make the playoffs. He'd have to keep his 38 year old body in shape for two months.

He leads the NFL in QB rating, YPA, and TD passes. The Pro Bowl selections at times appear nothing more than a personality contest.
