Congressman blasts Rocket on taped-call tactic.

One of the congressmen who will interrogate Roger Clemens next week blasted the pitcher's efforts to discredit his former trainer Brian McNamee, calling the attempt "sleazy."

Rep. Christopher Shays (R-Conn.), a member of the House Oversight Committee - the panel that will question Clemens next week, said he is disturbed by Clemens' attacks on McNamee.

"I'm not comfortable that there was a dialogue between the two men," said Shays, referring to the taped conversation between Clemens and McNamee that was played at Monday's press conference in Houston. "It's really ugly."

A Republikkkan congressman calling out Roger Clemens because the latter did something "sleazy" ???
Well, it takes one to know one.

correct answer, NOT GIVEN; "just tell the truth, goddamn it" THIS IS THE ANSWER AN INNOCENT PERSON WOULD GIVE

3. Am I the only person who thinks the McNamee is asking Clemens for money?
He has a sick kid. His source of revenue is gone. Does he have savings? Seems a lot like he email Clemens asking for money.

You are right except in that Roger had to be careful of not committing witness tampering-this was pointed out by a writer on ESPN, Olney. Clemens's lawyer was probably sitting with him making sure he did say anything that could be construed as tampering.

4. You going to call out the Democrats who are calling this hearing?
Or just Shays?

This is a matter for Congress, in part because of the anti-trust exemption. If MLB wants to give up that exemption, then I'm sure Congress would be more open to looking the other way.

5. What I said applies to ALL who are calling this hearing. . .
Shays is just one hypocrite out of many - including former Sen. George Mitchell. Mitchell sits on the board of the Boston Red Sox front office management - so right from the start, any pretense of non-bias went out the door regarding this investigation.

Another take on this situation from EdgeOfSports.com:

(snip)
Clemens was most effective when for a brief moment he dropped the Gary Cooper routine and said simply, "And that's our country, isn't it? Guilty before innocent. That the way our country works now." That's certainly the way it has worked for Barry Bonds over the past several years. It's hard to imagine a world where 60 Minutes would have given Bonds similar treatment and respect.

Clemens is now getting a taste - even if the blow is softened by racial double standards - of what athletes from Bonds to Martina Hingis to Randy Moss to many others have experienced in recent years: the flammable hypocrisy that torches athletse when their careers cross with drugs, whether recreational or "performance enhancing." We are now in a sports world where human beings are glorified and then destroyed for our collective amusement. When these modern gladiators take substances to extend their time in fame's embrace or find relief from the suffocating pressure of competition, they are punished. Then Congress comes running, ready to pile an extra coating of political distraction on this already noxious spectacle by trading on the pelts of athletes for cheap votes. The Clemens spectacle was yet another demonstration that we need a more sane way to deal with drugs in sports than turning it into reality TV and congressional fodder. No ifs, ands, or butts.

6. My response based on the OP is geared towards Shays and his statement.
And yes, all of the congressmembers who support this, need to adjust their priorities.

Given the criminality of this administration, MLB ranks pretty low IMHO.

7. I'm with ticapnews
it's about the anti-trust exemption. Give that up and this all goes away.

8. Wussy Crissy is trying to make baseball an issue, and not Iraq...
...because he's trying to make voters in his district remember how firmly Crissy's lips are on Bush's flabby butt. Try not to visualize this.
