Duncan Best Power Forward Ever?
Should Tim Duncan now be considered the best power forward ever? He has not won his fourth championship ring in nine years. For three of those years he won Finals MVP. So is he the best power forward ever?

1. I told my son
that I listened to a guy on tv making a good case for this last week. I thought it was interesting. Of course, I know that I'm pretty limited in my insights on any sport other than one .... but, in boxing, I always hesitate to say anyone is the "greatest" ..... Some are the best of their era, and could compete against guys from any era. I assume that Tim Duncan's talents would make him one of the small group of most talented players from any era, and that he has been so good for so long, that his accomplishments deserve special acclaim. He is a lot of fun to watch.

2. Best bank-shot shooter, definitely!
I'm being a little facetious - but I have to say I don't remember a player who is as consistent as Duncan is when going glass. Maybe Scottie Pippen, although even Pip didn't use that shot as much as Duncan does.

But there is most definitely a case to be made for Duncan as best PF ever. He exemplifies the Spurs team, in that he's so maddeningly consistent as to be almost boring. But 4 titles in 9 years is a real good argument for being boring! :)

There are very few at the PF position who can compare, that's for sure.

4. arguable, but he didnt have to play against MJ
Would Karl Malone be at the head of the list if he didnt have to play Jordan and Bulls in the finals?

How about Barkley who also lost to the Bulls in the finals and also got eliminated by them when he was with the Sixers.

The jury is still out on Amare. Its arguable that the Spurs dont beat the Suns if it wasnt for Horrys throwdown of Steve Nash.

5. He's the best I've seen
Athletic, intelligent, versatile and reliable. I'd prefer a little bit more aggressiveness but that's the only knock and it's very minor.

Maurice Lucas was always the standard to me. He moved around too much late in his career and was not as effective, but in his prime he was truly an enforcer. I like tough guys at power forward.

Karl Malone, Kevin McHale and Charles Barkley are the other names that come to mind.

7. better question:
is R.C. Buford the best GM ever? better even than Jerry West? I think you could make that case.

9. I would say so
I think you could probably even say he was as early as three years ago. I'd take him over anyone else, however it's tough to compare eras. The game changes etc. Certainly Duncan is the best of his era though. I think that's undeniable.

12. He most definately should be included in the class of best
forwards to play the game. But the qualification of "power" and "small" forward has evolved over the years. Players like Larry Bird, Dominique Wilkins, Jerry West, John Havlicek and many of the players from that era weren't necessarily considered "power" forwards nor were they "small" forwards. They were just forwards.

I most certainly give him his due though. He's been as consistant year in and year out over a long period of time. He deserves to be included in any list of "all time" players.
