Question for Red Sox fans (and anyone else): Is Johnny Damon staying?
I've heard that they're not going to keep him--too expensive. I live in Denver, so I really ain't hearing much about this--is this big news in the sports pages in New England?

1. Well as a Cubs fan
I think he would look great in Cubby Blue. He'd fill two needs at once. Center Field and a leadoff hitter. C'mon down Johnny. We need you.

5. I'd hate to see Johnny go, but then again, he has a hard-on for Dubya...
...very disappointed when I learned that.

2. The only big sports news in New England this week
is that Tedy is back on the field for the Pats.

Oh, and Manny wants a trade.

The biggest piece of Johnny Damon-related news is that a school banned Halloween this year, and last year the principal dressed as Damon. :P
http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/1031/p02s01-ussc.html

Damon filed for free agency and may go elsewhere...rather than a Cubs uniform he might be wearing pinstripes... One theory is that the Sox will let Damon go and use the money to sign Paul Konerko away from the White Sox...

But I think the odds are Epstein and Boras will work out a deal and Damon will stay in Boston...

3. Manny..or Damon?
Hmmmm, Manny's making noise about wanting a trade again, this time out west to Anaheim. And the Angels owner is not afraid to spend the money either, not to mention they have boatlaods of young talent the red Sox should ocnsider too.

4. I did mean Johnny---then I saw the post about Manny saying--yet again--
that he wanted to be traded.

7. Possible
but doubtful. If we can move Manny - a hard task, as he has weakened the club's trading stance by making this demand (the whole league will know we are desperate to dump him) - it might open up enough money to keep Damon.

8. I'd rather see Manny go than Johnny...even if Johnny is a Repuke...
...Manny is a needless distraction. Of course, now that Theo's gone, nothing good will ever happen for another 86 years!

9. "Needless Distraction" isn't the reason to trade Manny
It's a good PR excuse, but the real reason to trade him is to dump (most of) his contract before he hits his decline phase, which will be very, very soon.

10. I think he may already be in decline...if he is, then the Yankees will be
sure to grab him! It warms my heart they way they're taking all the old, great players, who just don't have it in them anymore!

11. Yankees already qualify for AARP
Hell next spring Big Unit might need an oversized walker, and I'm a Yankees fan  I'm still ticked off at how he basically told all the fans to fuck off, then he got rocked by Anaheim :argh:

12. Yuk-yuk! The Yankees need to go through a few lean years before
they can think of another title--they need to rebuild with a lot of fresh blood. Of course, George will never think of doing this, so he'll keep expandning his payroll and getting great players who are past their prime. It'll keep them competitive, but it will keep them from winning it all.
