NHL: Teams dropping overpaid schmucks like flies
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 05:45 PM by devilgrrl
The Flyers cut loose Tony Amonte and John LeClair, Montreal let Patrice Brisebois go and Detriot got rid of Darren McCarty, Darian Hatcher and Ray Whitney

1. Darian Hatcher
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 05:45 PM by tridim
I do not like that fucker.. Good riddance.

Any idea where he's headed?

Edit: I'm ecstatic that the Avs are keeping Sakic and Blake. Forsberg is on the edge, I hope they can squeeze him in to the cap. Take a pay cut Sakic!

9. Me too...
...I wouldn't classify him as an "overpaid schmuck."

3. The torrent of free agency moves will be dizzying
The whole league will look entirely different by the time they finally drop the puck this fall--and it's practically a whole new game, rules-wise.

I hope all this has been good for the game--I guess we'll know by the time the playoff run begins next spring.

Go Canes!

They're even BIGGER assholes.

Here's to hoping that fans stay home in droves and save their hard earned cash. :nopity:

13. I find they're union in name only.
The players are as much a cartel.

8. The union signed the deal that allows the teams to do this.
The teams are buying out players to make room under the cap for other players. The net effect is that they'll be spending more with the buyouts than without them. It's unclear how this is anti-union, especially since the union signed onto this with about 80% of its members voting for it.

The players being bought out receive 2/3's of their old salary for nothing. They can then turn around and sign with another team, and if their new salary is more than a third of the old one, they come out ahead.

16. On the other hand...
...it was either sign this, or not play. I can see where any deal becomes a good option under those circumstances.

10. Look for Niedermeyer and Satan to be dealt
That's Miroslav Satan not Lucifer Satan!

ESPN is also reporting that Jagr is thinking about going back to Russia to play b/c he'll have to take a minimum $3 million pay cut.
Good riddance!

15. Bruins gave Lapointe an offer?!?
His salary is almost more ridiculous than Holik's
I'd be interested to see what the offer was. If it was any more than 2 million, they're crazy. Especially considering how many players are about to be let loose.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=131529

Signed to a lucrative free-agent contract in 2001, the 31-year-old Lapointe made $5.5 million with the Bruins in 2003-04. He scored a career-high 27 goals in his final season with Detroit in 2000-01 but has not netted more than 17 in any of his three campaigns in Boston.

17. Pronger may end up elsewhere
And the funny thing is, I really don't care. The lockout has soured me so much on the NHL. I'll be following the UHL this year. Yay Missouri River Otters!:)
