Dallas wins 'Best Sports City' award
The Mavericks' championship also helped crown Dallas/Fort Worth as The Sporting News' "Best Sports City" of 2011.

Dallas dethroned 2010 winner Chicago, which placed fourth. Boston checked in at No. 2, followed by Philadelphia. New York was No. 5.

The ranking was based on accomplishments between summer 2010 and summer 2011. Dallas boasted the Mavs' championship, the Rangers' AL pennant, undefeated TCU's Rose Bowl win and the Cowboys' hosting the Super Bowl (though not playing in it).

"The Metroplex is a sports fan's dream -- great pro sports, college powerhouses and some of the best high school sports programs in the country -- and we deliver it all with typical Texas hospitality," Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price said in a statement released by Sporting News. "When it comes to big-time sports, we've got plenty to cheer about and plenty to cheer for. With all due respect to Green Bay, I can safely say that the 'Titletown, USA' claim pretty much belongs to Fort Worth, Dallas and the North Texas region."

Top it off with your choice of smooth, hot caramel or decadent chocolate syrup. Concessionaire contact: Lydia Turner at the Funnel Cake stand on Fun Way near the intersection of Pike and Fun Way and in the Tower Building.

Fried Autumn Pie - Fairgoers will fall for this hard-to-resist puff pastry infused with a scrumptious combination of pumpkin, cream cheese, powdered sugar, and fall spices. Deep fried and rolled in ginger, cinnamon, and sugar.

Hans’ Kraut Ball - A conglomeration of taste: browned pork sausage, onion, garlic, a zing of sauerkraut, mustard, and tasty seasonings all rolled into a mouth-watering ball of delight. Covered with seasoned bread crumbs, deep fried, and served with your choice Spicy Mustard, Rasberry Chipotle, or Ranch.

Walking Taco - Stroll down the Midway with this concoction of seasoned hamburger meat, lettuce, onion, fresh tomato, grated cheese, sour cream, and tasty salsa. Inventively served up in a Nacho Cheese flavored Doritos bag!

4. The full list...
http://aol.sportingnews.com/sport/story/2011-10-04/best-sports-cities-the-list-from-1-to-271

San Francisco won a WS and Green Bay a SB within the time frame, yet they're only 15 and 33 respectively? Seems like the fix was in..

5. How did the Frisco NBA and NFL teams do. Pretty much a drag on the city.
Surely you can't call this an east coast bias!

8. SF doesn't have an NBA team..
and you know about the 49ers...but not only did the Giants win the WS, but they sold out all 81 games this past season. I should think that would be good for something, other than to be placed behind such sports hotbeds as Tampa/St.Petersburg ..

At least they have San Jose + Palo Alto+ Santa Clara at #13..

7. 1) Mavs won't repeat even if there is a season, 2) Cowpies won't make the play-offs,
3) Stars? Who?

4) Rangers? Well, I think they may have gone as far as they will this season.

Conclusion: Enjoy it while it lasts.

9. You're leaving out the colleges.
SMU (doing well in the CUSA), TCU (National Rose Bowl Champion) and Dallas Baptist (who made it to the regionals in baseball).

Never been to Dallas (or Texas) and no plans to ever see it. This state has done enough damage to the country.

12. ALERT!
I WAS in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963. Why do you want to blame us good Democrats for that tragedy? Because you are beyond reasonable. I suppose you think that you've been abducted by aliens too?

13. So Dallas is a scapegoat just like Steve Bartman?
(I just watched "Catching Hell")

No. Bartman is a little weasel asshole. You can't blame a whole city for a deranged Oswald or Bush.

14. You actually have to win titles frequently to claim you are Titletown.
Not just have a sports reporter and/or city mayor say so. Kind of reminds me of that silly "America's Team" moniker. Hey...If you can't win make up names for yourself that make you sound like a winner.

Go, Pack GOOO. :D

You want to see a great fan base, check out the crowd at Ford Field for Monday Night Football against the Bears this coming Monday. And without that idiot Hank Williams, Jr.!

2-0 Tigers over Yankees, first inning. Bless You, Boys!

You know I don't think I've ever been to Iowa. Flew over it many times however. Is it the penultimate fly over state? How many honey buckets have been dumped there?

21. The reason we're a "fly over" State is because we don't want your ass landing here.
Best kept secret in the nation. The worst? Take your fucking pick of the Southern US. C'mon, fuckers. Give me some attributes of the great State of Texas. Can't fucking wait to hear them.

Thank you.

Molly Ivins lived here as well.

Houston has the first open lesbian mayor.

I say this as a Packer fan. Texas is far more awesome than the Michigan I came from. Not as close to Wisconsin though. :)

Also...I am not a "fucker".
