7. Sorry, I disagree.
How does anyone, brought up in this country, forget those lyrics? And, since you didn't address her singing, I'm speaking to the group, here. That is one song that doesn't need any vocal ornamentation, especially so when a painful lack of talent is evident.

12. As a person that goes to many sporting events,
100s a year, where the national anthem is sung, I still don't think I know the Anthem by heart, word for word.

11. It's Beyond Messing Up
She turned that short tune into a myasmic showpiece apparently because she thought the show was about her.

In addition, the song lasted 50% longer than any version in the history of the Superbowl. So, she lost the melody in all the vocal gymnastics and THEN screwed up the words.

As far as i'm concerned, they don't even need to do that song before the game, but if one is going to be the singer on the Superbowl telecast, maybe one should go up on stage knowing that NOBODY is watching the telecast to see the singer.

6. Most of today's bands are products of the studio
I was listening to Daryl Hall(Hall and Oates) and he said that most of today's singers can't carry a tune. That it is all corrected in the studio and there are "machines that can take one note and build a voice entirely around that one note. My Mom was a professional singer and she practiced scales all the time.
Now this is going to be a shocker to almost everyone but she loved Sinatra when he was young but thought his voice sucked as he got older. She said he never practiced and it was obvious to anyone who had a trained voice.

She also said that you can't sing sitting down. She did love Art Garfunkel's voice.

9. You're half right--most of today's acts are products of the studio AND VIDEO.
Take away the vocoders, auto tuners, micro-miniskirts, six-pack abs, pyrotechnics, dance troupes, and multi-level stage sets, sultry closeups, and designer costumes, and the lack of actual talent tends to become glaring.

16. Those are the made-for-TV/Internet acts.
The world is filled with talented musicians. One just has to get away from the big venues.

15. Actually, most of today's acts are products of long-tenure in local joints.
Unfortunately, most of those acts aren't video friendly, so the majority of people don't find them. Go explore your local scene. You'll find some amazing music that makes the "national" crap look even worse.

I've seen better-groomed bales of hay. Clay Matthews' hair was better conditioned!

17. That wasn't bad.
Of course, I'm listening to a band called The Revolting Cocks at the moment....

I don't like Aguilera (sp?), but even Cab Calloway messed the anthem up once.
