Dear BCS- you have done a wonderful job
making bowl games and the conclusion of the college season meaningless. You have done such a great job that now the games are on ESPN instead of ABC, CBS and NBC. By stretching it out no one goes and no one watches. Finally, by making the "championship" nine days later that New Years all the enthusiasm is gone and now moving to pro football. Good job.

2. No more casual fans watch
When the bowls were on New years day you could attract the casual fan. Now with the Orange bowl yesterday who watched that and who attended- no one. The Sugar bowl tonight is in exactly the same bind. Everyone is back to work.

7. Oh I agree---
and I think it's absurd on how they schedule these games.

3. Amen
Oregon-Auburn is a GREAT matchup, but once you get into January I'm thinking NFL playoffs, and weeknight bowl games? I think I've missed more mythical national title games than I've watched since they started pushing them back...

4. Good analysis, Wilt.
I still watch because I'm a junkie. But I could see the casual fan tuning out. Almost a month of Bowls. Too much.

5. Hell, I watch them..
most of them are on WEEKNIGHTS as opposed to the pro football playoffs being shown on WEEKENDS. See the difference? Are you telling me you're not going to be checking out OSU/Arkansas tonight? I agree the BCS sucks, but only because we need playoffs instead..

6. I won't
I can't watch a football game every night of the week because, basically, I don't have a job I work 9-5 and forget about - I need to work most evenings. So unless I care deeply enough to make time I really can only watch games on weekends and holidays.

8. The only thing I care about that you mention
Edited on Tue Jan-04-11 01:05 PM by JonLP24
Is moving the games to ESPN. I don't care that the National Championship is nine days after New Years. It doesn't make a difference to me. All I care about is being able to watch it which I won't unless I go to a sports bar.

10. Football
I'm a Suns basketball fan and a Rockies baseball fan. Cards' season is over. I think I'll change it.

11. Why are you a Rockies fan and not a Diamondback fan??
Just curious.

12. Because I was a Rockies fan before the Diamondbacks existed
I wasn't going to change teams just because they created one that was closer to me.

13. Ok. I was just curious. Were you a fan of anyone before the Rockies?
I won't even try to explain my loyalties. I spent two years trying to explain it to cboy and he never did get it!!

:D

15. I didn't care about sports
Edited on Tue Jan-04-11 01:42 PM by JonLP24
I didn't start caring until my grandma (mother's side) started taking me to Sun Devil games in '95 or '94. Season tickets in '96. I recall the first football game I attended, it was against the Louisville Cardinals and I though "Wow, cool. They're playing the Cardinals(thinking Arizona Cardinals)." Because their colors and logo were very similar. Once I understood the rules I was hooked. At first I couldn't figure out why the offense moved back to where they snapped the ball on incomplete passes. Due to confusion of successful plays, I thought the offense moved where ever the ball moved.

First Rockies game I watched was when I was visiting my dad in Colorado, I was at his mother's house, watching a double-header of Atlanta-Colorado and I was hooked. Plus Larry Walker and Andres Galarraga were fun players to watch.

14. I agree. Removing the BCS from free airwaves is a heinous idea.
