Ubaldo Jimenez falters but Rockies rally past Red Sox 8-6
AP / 06-23-2010

DENVER (AP) --

Jason Giambi hit a game-ending, two-run homer off Jonathan Papelbon as the Colorado Rockies scored three times in the ninth to beat the Boston Red Sox 8-6 on Wednesday night after ace Ubaldo Jimenez finally had a bad outing.

Giambi, batting for Jonathan Herrera, sent a 1-0 pitch into the right-field seats. Ian Stewart had tied it at 6 when he led off the inning with his eighth homer — but first at Coors Field — off Papelbon (2-4), who blew his second save in 18 chances.

Manny Corpas (2-4) picked up the win a scoreless inning of relief.

Jimenez, who was seeking his 14th win, gave up six runs and 10 hits over 5 2-3 innings in the worst start of his spectacular season.

This is one of my "who do I root for" games. I guess it's the Red Sox, which is probably why Papelbon blew it.

1. I was just happy to see the Rox get the win and get Jimenez off the hook.
Though I will admit I nearly knocked over my coffee table when I jumped up when Giambi bashed that homer into the second deck.

:woohoo:

2. 6 runs, 10 hits in only 5 2/3?
That's pretty bad. Ubaldo doesn't have a track record of success like Lincecum or Halladay. He just may turn out to be a half season wonder.
