The Most Disliked People In Sports
http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=ys-forbesdisliked061810

To measure public opinion of sports figures, E-Poll surveyed 1,100 people nationwide, aged 13 or older. Forbes limited eligibility to those currently active in sports as a player, coach, manager, broadcaster, agent or owner. A 10 percent minimum awareness level was also a prerequisite (that eliminated drug-using cyclist Floyd Landis and money-grubbing baseball agent Scott Boros (sic), both very much disliked by the few but anonymous to the many).

Right behind Vick in this year’s poll: Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis, a longtime maverick with a history of clashing with the NFL, coaches and politicians in Northern and Southern California over stadium deals that have led him to move the club twice.

And coming in at Number Five...

Also making the list is fellow renegade NFL owner Jerry Jones, who likes to run the Dallas Cowboys as more of a free-standing business than as part of a league.

Fire away...

4. God I hated the fucking four corners offense that was Dean Smith's entire
offense. An offense to the game of basketball.

11. Another arrogant dickweed:
Barry Bonds. But I guess he's out of sports for good.

One thing I've heard about Al Davis -- once you've proven you'll play by his rules, he's there when you need him. Davis is a loyal friend according to those who know him.

I still want him to retire.

18. Here we go...
Manny and Barry and McGwire and all the other asterisk assclowns.

Pete Carroll for fucking up USC's future. Fuck you Pete.

T.O. and OchoStinko for not being team players and making it all about them.

Al Davis for just being an asshole.

Ditto for Ovechkin.

Ozzie Guillen for being a loudmouth dipshit.

Steinbrenner for treating his players like shit.

Daryl Strawberry for remarking during the L.A. wildfires "let it burn."

Steve Garvey for being a wife-beating dirt bag.

Rick Monday for being a ultra-nationalist, flag-waving scumbag.

Michael Vick for abusing animals.

Jeffrey Leonard for "one flap down" showboating.

Every major league manager and player who didn't want Jackie Robinson on their team.

Ty Cobb for being a racist and a murderer.

That Giant's player who refused to wear the AIDS ribbon on "Until There's a Cure Day"

John Rocker for being a racist.

God, I could go on and on I'll just stop here...

20. Historically, you'd have to include Tom Yawkey, former owner of the Red Sox
Why this racist escapes scrutiny is beyond me (aside from the fact he's been dead for a while):

Wikipedia:

Yawkey has been accused of being a racist for his apparent reluctance to employ African American players with the Red Sox including passing on signing Willie Mays and Jackie Robinson. Yawkey claimed that black athletes were inferior to whites and could not hope to compete on the same ballfield (this despite the fact that Negro Leaguers fared decently in exhibition games against MLB all-stars).

It was not until 1959 that the Red Sox became the last Major League team to field an African American player (Pumpsie Green), 12 years after Robinson's rookie season with the Brooklyn Dodgers (and almost three years after Robinson's retirement in 1956). Even after integrating, racism was believed to play a role in future moves made by the Red Sox, notably the trade of star outfielder Reggie Smith in 1973. During that period, the Red Sox went from being a perennial contender to failing to finish within 10 games of first place for 17 years (1950–1966).

22. Not only does he escape scrutiny,
Fenway's official address is on Yawkey Way, and the T rail station nearby is Yawkey Station. :wtf:

I remember watching a Sox game in that damnable season of '78 :grr: , seeing an African American player come to bat -- and asking "Who's that?" (It was Jim Rice, of course.)

26. Word on the street in Lexington in the 70's. I ran a bar
close to campus that lots of national basketball people came to. Bourbon whiskey dose not make you smart. Friends from Bloomington also swear on this. I could not prove it but he is such a shit I also do not care. I do miss the rivalry we had with Indiana( bobby was a good coach ) they have been sucking too long to worry about them. They have finally gotten a good coach so we will see about that. If there are any Hoosiers that still follow basketball and visit this thread maybe they could add to it. I lived in Augusta Ga in the 50's and the Triple A team was the Augusta Yankees where Ty came up. I never heard the murder thing either.
