Frank Herzog Retires
Former Washington Redskins play-by-play man Frank Herzog will be retiring from his current position at WTOP, according to the Washington Post. I grew up in a turn-the-TV-down-and-turn-the-radio up family, so Herzog's voice calls many of the most significant Redskins plays in the voiceovers in my memory, and I wish him all the best in his retirement.

When I was fifteen, I actually had Herzog's call of a touchdown from the '91 NFC Championship game as the outgoing message on my answering machine, and I can remember it with perfect clarity: "He's got Clark! In the end zone! Touchdown, Washington Redskins! Clark almost made a fair catch! Thirty yard touchdown pass, Rypien has struck gold!"

I never thought the Redskins radio was the same after Frank was fired. I've enjoyed listening to him on WTOP. I've also met the guy in person. Nice guy. I will miss him.

1. My only experiences with Herzog were the 87-88 and 91-92 Redskins NFL FIlms Videos
As a Redskins fan living in NJ, I never ever listened to them on the radio

I used to watch them all the time when I was a kid. And the one thing I remembered more than anything else is "Touchdown, Washington Redskins!" And they used to say it a lot back then!

3. Yep. I never understood replacing him with Larry Michaels.
Can't stand the guy.

4. Frank IS the voice of the Redskins.
Sunday afternoons weren't nearly as fun after he stopped doing play-by-play.
