It Seemed Fake
I am not one of the people that believe Tiger Woods owed the country an apology; however, the statement seemed fake. I understand some people on this site might not like what I will say in this post, but I will say it anyway. On a number of specific occasions the statement by Tiger woods seemed fake. One instance is when he said he was sorry. It seemed like one of those sorries where some says I am saying I am sorry only because I feel like I have to say I am sorry. Another occasion was when he raised his hand up and down and then touched his chest. I just seemed so staged. It did not seem like something someone was doing because he really felt something, but because his stage manager told him to do it. If he did not feel he should give an apology he should have just said he would not give one. Overall, the statement seemed like something Saturday Night Live would mock.

1. It seemed like he was performing on SNL himself.

3. Thought That
At one point I really did think the statement seemed like an SNL skit. At one point I almost burst into laughter.

5. I'm sure Nike and PGA are hurting enough for money to BRING him back
Edited on Fri Feb-19-10 11:58 AM by rocktivity
I imagine their fortunes have been hurting a little. With no great white hope in sight, their TV revenues must be starting to circle the drain.

8. No
He did not rule out coming back this year, but also did not guarantee he would come back this year. He did say he did plan to eventually come back to golf.

10. If I were advising Tiger Woods
I would encourage him to get the heck out of Dodge. He should sell his American real estate, move to Thailand, play the European and Asian tours, and win the British Open as often as he could. Tell the PGA to suck air, stay away from the American major tourneys, sign big ass endorsement deals with Asian companies, and let all his buddies like Ernie and Mark and Rory compete for the suddenly dwindling PGA purses. Isn't it ironic that his most vocal supporters and encouragers have been poor old John Daly and Mr. Wonderful Phil Mickelson.

11. The defiant segments sounded most sincere
That's what stood out to me. When he was ranting against the media it was natural and with great emphasis. The apologetic sections were staggering and awkward and poorly delivered. I don't think he ever apologized to the game of golf in general.

He should have delivered it seated behind a table, not from a podium. A podium is overly formal and like you are preaching. I was stunned when the coverage began and he was at a podium. The idea was to be on the same level as the audience, in more ways than one. Political debates are a great reference point, always more chatty and relaxed at a table setting than podium.

Once the front camera failed it was even more awkward, Tiger viewed from the side.

Regarding his opportunities based on stature and money, one half sentence worth of transition would have been understandable and proper. But I had to shake my head in disbelief when he went on and on about superior he always felt. Hard to transition from there to accepting his apologies as sincere.

The media is not going to grill him on every detail of his affairs. Tiger expressed specific fear on that regard today. He's always been so robotic and reserved he doesn't understand how the media works. You can wiggle around the questions with a bit of vague detail as long as it's followed by several eye to eye minutes of sincere sounding remorse. The public never takes the media's side. Just get out there and face a few uncomfortable interviews and you're fine, or at least as fine as this situation will allow at this point.

12. When he returns--if he continues to sic his caddy on fans
Then you know it was totally fake.
