38 quarters
that's how long Alabama's offensive line has gone without a holding penalty.

3. I'm an old lineman myself
who probably got tagged with a hold every single game I played, even when I wasn't guilty of it.

For 5 lineman to go that many quarters without a hold is well, odd. I admire their record of no holds, but in just about every play I see in the pro's, and the few college games I watch there are holds almost all the time.

4. I hadn't looked at it that way
I figured if they were going to be called for one, and there really was a conspiracy with the SEC refs, then surely the Big East refs would have made the right call.

5. Each ref is different, we had refs
in HS that the minute you went under the shoulder pads and pushed them this way/that way, the flag would come out, and we had ref's were we could pretty much just pick/toss defenders and barely get a flag. Its a bell curve of sorts for holding.

Personally, I'd just wrap all O lineman's hands with boxers gloves so its impossible for them to hold(unless they are pinning Defender on ground). The holding call is very touch/go, and it amazes me that Bama went that many quarters without a holding call, hell thats almost 10 games. I just think its odd, never heard about that stat until tonight...

6. while I'm a football fan (college)
I never played, so I didn't realize holding calls were this subjective. Thanks!
