7. No, that's embarrassing T&A used to market boring sports. THESE are cheerleaders:

I'm glad the sexist bullshit hasn't caught on across the pond. Yet another reason why real Football is so much better than throwball.

8. Because soccer riots are such a step up from American football.
I'm glad those soccer fans can show us how to behave over here.

And it's also rather silly to think that the sexist stuff doesn't exist in soccer. Have you seen any Mexican or Argentinian soccer lately?

I'm sure glad soccer is above using T&A to market their own boring sport.

9. Key words "across the pond".
Edited on Thu Nov-19-09 12:07 PM by redqueen
There have been a few futile efforts to start this sadness over there... thankfully most of the fans there are there for sports, not ... whatever that is.

I need to move there.

As for riots, I understand your desire to change the subject. I really do.

10. If you want to trash the NFL...
..you should try to do so in a way that doesn't make you like a hypocrite. You want to hold soccer up as a shining light away from sexism when it clearly uses the very same things to sell it's product that the NFL does. Go ahead and hide behind the "across the pond" wording while ignoring the rest of the world's soccer countries.

I understand your desire to cop out. I really do.

11. No cop out here I'm well aware of how things are in Mexico and S America.
I didn't hold up soccer as a "shining light" away from sexism... that's your melodrama. Own it.

All I did was point out that those are NOT cheerleaders. Those are nothing but T&A props, used to market a sport which I consider unbelievably boring. What is it... 50 minutes of action packed into three or so hours?

Oh man, sign me up. :boring:

I then pointed out that across the pond, they don't go for the sexist bullshit. Which, as I said, I consider just one more reason to like that sport more.

Mea culpa for the poor wording. I hope this clears things up.

12. You own your own melodrama, redqueen.
Yet another reason why real Football is so much better than throwball.

Your wording wasn't poor, just hypocritical. You're clearly saying that one reason why soccer is better than "throwball" is because of the sexism in said "throwball". Your post was decrying sexism in the NFL while saying that soccer was better because they don't do that stuff. Only they do. When I pointed that out you immediately played the sexism card with me by implying I was bringing up rioting to brush aside the talk of sexism.

As for riots, I understand your desire to change the subject. I really do.

That's Hannity type BS. You're better than that, and you should damn well know me well enough by now to know how I feel about sexism.

Have a great day.

13. I enjoy American football
which has nothing to do with cheerleaders or props. Several NFL teams actually do not have so called cheerleaders.

Steelers, Lions, Browns, and a few others don't have them.

Off topic I remember the Bills cheerleaders came to visit us in Arif Jan however I wasn't interested in that. You won't believe how long the line was autographs though.

14. It's frickin wonderful that some of the teams don't stoop to it.
But those lines explain why so many teams do. It's just marketing... and it's disappointing that it works so well. Whatever the traffic will bear, though, right?

Anyway, I still enjoy halfway watching, sometimes. It's just too slow for me. Add in the gratuitous T&A, and ... it's really hard for me to justify bothering with it.

The ubiquitous commercial breaks are another reason why I enjoy football more than throwball. Though some officials can still slow things down well enough on their own by calling fouls too often. Wish we'd have had one like that in yesterday's match in France. :(

15. Soccer doesn't need to distract people from the fact that NOTHING HAPPENS
for extremely long periods of time right in the middle of a game like American football does.

Soccer players don't huddle, or call timeouts, or sit on the sidelines for half the game (they play offense AND defense) or any of that sissy crap American football players do.
